It's been around zero and some nights a little below, and the days are sunny but cold. I think perhaps there would be less colds if we had some storm. Is that an old fashioned idea? I feel that the church authorities tell us exactly how to make our homes the way they should be if we would only heed and do exactly as they tell us and we could, if we only tried hard enough. Among those sitting near me were Brother Golden Gold-en Erickson, who had a very serious seri-ous accident a few years ago, and seems to have fully recovered and Wally Church and Agnes Skidmore Allen, who both underwent heart surgery; I couldn't help but think how they had been blessed in the regaining of their health. Brother Clead Nielson spoke of the book "The Naked Communist" as a comparison of the bad way and our way of life. Speaking of books, it was interesting inter-esting to me to read the two by Dr. Peck, (old doctor out goldhill, Ibapah and Callao way), "What Next, Dr. Peck?" and "All About Men." We are so sorry about the fire in the Jeff Jones home last week. I know from experience that there are lots of things lost that can never be replaced! The funeral Saturday for Mr. Mc Neely was very nice. The duet by . John PetPrson and his daughter- in-law was beautiful, as, also, was the young boys' quartet. SOIL PROFILE By Brad Hatch Soil Conservation Service I recall, several years ago, a farmer in Piute County said to me, "I watch that patch of snow on Marysvale peak, if it does not melt before July 1st I know I will have sufficient water to mature my crops." This man had a good idea in fact the government is now watching these patches of snow and are coming up with some fairly fair-ly reliable information on our summer sum-mer water supply. Gregory Pearson, engineer, employed em-ployed by the Soil Conservation Service sends out a booklet giving "Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasts for Utah, Bear and Colorado Colo-rado River Basins" on the first of Jan., Feb., March, and April, based on careful snow survey measurements measure-ments taken in our main watershed areas. These forecasts are compared com-pared with actual streamflow during dur-ing the summer months and forecast fore-cast methods are altered to allow more accurate forecasts in future years. Here are a few quotes from Greg Pearson's first booklet for 1961: "The East Fork of the Sevier River j is expected to yield about 125 1 (of average) while the South Fork of the Sevier at Hatch is forecast at abe-ui 115 with 105 near Kingston. Flow from San Pitch is 70 of average. "While the water outlook is not serious as yet, it can very quickly become so. This is particularly true for those dependent on reservoir storage rights since the carry over from last year is so much below be-low average. "Ordinarily 35 to 40 of the total- snow pack to be expected had accumulated by the first of January the water supply prospects pros-pects may change considerably." So we better carefully watch that snow patch on the mountain. MOVE TO NORTHWEST Mr. and Mrs. Grant Pratt and children, Don.
