Oak City School Graduates Six Sixth Graders Graduation exercises were presented pre-sented Thursday evening May 16, 1957, for the Sixth Grade Class at the Oak City Elementary School. The program was under the direction di-rection of David Lovell and included includ-ed prayer, by, Dennis Peterson; Valedictorian, Karen Olsen; reading read-ing by Betty Lou Lovell; piano solo by Jane Finlinson; school story by Marsha Alldredge and the school history by Dennis Peterson. The Class Mixed Chorus sang "School Days", accompanied by Beth Nielson. Principal Thomas Pratt gave a few remarks and presented each certificate of promotion to the students. Following refreshments a short film, Skippy and the 3 Rs was shown to an enthusiastic audience. List of Graduates: Marsha All-dredge, All-dredge, Jane Finlinson, Betty Lou Lovell, David Lovell, Karen Olsen and Dennis Peterson. In the stake house. This convention marks the con clusion of five years of study of the Book of Mormon in tne i neology neo-logy and Visiting Teachers departments depart-ments A pageant and dramatization, written bv Christine II. Robinson of the RelieD Society General Board, "The Characters and Teachings Teach-ings of the Book of Mormon", will be presented. The stake Singing Mothers chorus chor-us will furnish the singing, directed direct-ed by Mrs. Ivy Allred, and organ music will be by Beth Nielson. The recent session of the legislature legis-lature enacted a law providing that counties of this class may raise salaries by 10. The presently pres-ently elected county officers receive re-ceive a base of $3500, with the exception of the county attorney who receives $3,000. The Commissioners Commis-sioners tentatively decided on a 10 increase for those receiving the $3500 and discussed raising the county attorney's salary to $3500. Final action will be taken June 5. The County Commissioners are permitted by law to receive a maximum of $2500 a year, plus the new 10, or total of $2750. Their present salary In Millard County is $1200, so this was tentatively ten-tatively increased to $2400, to be decided definitely at the next meeting, June 5. Twentv-two meetings of the commissioners were held last year, many of these special meetings. meet-ings. It was decided with the salary increase they would meet twice a month in regular session, which should eliminate most of the special meetings. Miss Janice Western, Delta, was chosen queen in connection with a calf-roping contest and cutting exhibit held Saturday. Her attendants atten-dants will be Miss Valdes Sabey, Lehl, and Miss Dixie Ivers, Provo. The Commissioners also discussed dis-cussed new legislation permitting court houses to close on Saturday, but they felt with the tentative raise for county officers and for other reasons that this court house should remain open until noon on Saturday as It has done In the past. Nothing in the way of salary increases in-creases for deputies was decided at this time. One other matter of business was transacted at this meeting. Mark S. Johnson was appointed to the position of assistant county coun-ty attorney at a salary of $1.00 a year. Is Initiated Into Sigma Xi Elvon Anderson of Oak City Utah, was recently initiated to associate membership in the Lou isiana State Chapter of the Society of Sigma Xi on the Louisiana State University campus. Sigma Xi is a national honorary scientific society, whose members are selected on the 'basis of achievement achie-vement in scientific research. Mr. Anderson is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson of Oak City. With his wife and three children he resides at Baton Rouge, La. First Ward IIS. FOR SALE: All steel horse trailer, V , ,,, Elites TliEsrsdsay For 32issioiaary Shot in Accident Funeral services have been set for Thursday in Las Vegas for Miss Kathleen Sprague, 24, of 621 S. 2nd St., Las Vegas, who was accidentally accident-ally killed Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. Miss Sprague was serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time of her death. She was killed when a 6-year old boy picked up a 38-caliber pistol and fired it at her, thinking the weapon was a toy gun. The bullet struck her in the shoulder, severing an artery, and she died en route to the hospital. She was a daughter of Orson and Bertha Sampson Sprague, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She had completed com-pleted three and one-half years of study at Brigham Young University in Provo, and entered the mission home In Salt Lake City in September, Septem-ber, 1955. She was nearing the end of her mission service when the tragic accident claimed her life. She is survived by her parents, five sisters and four brothers. She was a niece or cousin of members of the Sampson family at Delta. Her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Sampson, went to Las "Vegas Tuesday to attend the rites. Her cousin, Mrs. Wanda Beckwith, and father, Emery Peterson, were in Las Vegas Wednesday with the family. Class of 1955 Plan Class Reunion The 1954-55 graduating class are again ready to join in a lot of fun in their annual classreunion. The date set for this gathering will be June 1. Everyone is to meet at the High school at 6 o'clock for a trip to Oak City Canyon, where the festivities festi-vities will take place.
