May 28, 1953 Mr. and Mrs. W E Black and son Sherrill, spent Saturday and Sunday in Cedar City, and attended at-tended the B A C award assembly assem-bly Sunday when their son Keith received a scholarship from Arden -Sunfreeze Creamery Co., in dairy ing. The award was made through the Cedar City business men's activity program. Members there were Verna Shepherd, Fern Mortensen, Ruby Vodak, June Reid, Lois Maxfield, Rayda Knikht, Elaine Knight, Vi Robinson, Dorothy Steele, Eleanor Roberts, Dora Munster and Beu-lah Beu-lah Bassett. High scores at cards were held by Mrs. Shepherd, high, Mrs. Bas- ' sett, second high, and Mrs. Mor-' Mor-' tensen received the consolation prize for low score. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Brush returned return-ed to their South Tract home on Saturday after a ten-day trip into Arizona and Old Mexico. They made the trip with their daughter and husband, Frank and Merna Webb, in Mr. Brush's car, and visited the Webbs at their home in Eloi. Mr. Brush reports that he saw cotton growing for the first time this trip. The Webbs brought them home and drove back in their car left here during the trip. Ralph and Betty Rollins, and sons, Craig and Kevan, from Ames, Iowa, are visiting Mrs. Rollins' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Avon Barney, Bar-ney, at Sutherland. jf'jl ' " sLilMsTsTWM Abraham BY PEGGY FRANKLIN Mr. and Mrs. George Talbot and Mrs. Fred Wilkins were out for Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Franklin and boys. Also visiting with them Sunday afternoon after-noon were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Wilkins from Lynndyl, Mrs. Bar bara Anderson and three child ren from Gunnison, Mrs. Geraldine Warner and children and Ray Wil kins, who has been home on leave from the Navy. Ray is stationed in California. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Wilkins and girls, and Mrs. Fred Wilkins are leaving Friday Fri-day to drive him iback. While there they will visit with Mr. and Mrs. Del Wilkins and family in San Pedro. Next Tuesday night the Young men's M.I.A. will give a party In the Church house at 8:00 for all the Mutual members. After the graduation exercises and dance in Hinckley Monday night, the Senior class met at La- Voy Tolbert's home and enjoyed the early morning hours with a good ole' gab session and sang songs, Floyd and Cleona served ice cream, punch and cookies to around twenty-two young people. It will probably be their last get-to-gether for some time and they all had a swell time. Miss Merlena Carling is spending spend-ing several days visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Young and their children. Conra Deem cut the end of her finger off in the grain drill the other day. Mrs. Leah Reid returned last week 'from Salt Lake City where she has been visiting her daughter Ruby and her new grandchild. She met her other daughter Mrs. Mae Barton of Soda Springs there, and they botti came home together. Jimmy Brady had his fourth birthday Sunday. His dad, Jim Brady, was home from Nevada to help him celebrate. Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Franklin made a trip to Salt Lake Thursday Thurs-day and Friday to celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversity. Mr. and Mrs Dulon Dee Bennett from Provo joined them for a "Smorgos-barg" "Smorgos-barg" dinner Thursday evening. Mrs. Eva Taylor the M.I.A. music director, was In charge cf the preliminary program in Mutual last Tuesday night. Peggy Franklin was narrator and musical numbers were given by Karen Murray, Bonita and Leona Talbot, Emily Young, and the congregation sang a new song. The young men's M.I.A. will not hold summer Mutual but the young women's organization will. So that the girls will be able to win their awards. Each class In Mutual will be asked to sponsor a party in turn throughout the summer so that the Mutual will have an activity act-ivity each month. Then in the fall a prize will be given to the class giving the best party. So start thinking up some good times to have when your turn arrives. It Just doesn't look like the farmers are going to have much growing weather this season, does it? The Youngs were out on the cattle drive to the summer feed range for several days this past week. The Merrill Millers were in Salt Lake City to attend the funeral of Mrs. Miller's aunt, Mrs. John Rossiter of Butte, Montana, and sister of the Late Walter James. Hampton Burke and Mrs. Merrill Mer-rill Miller attended the banquet and Grand Chapter Visitation of the O. E. S. in Richfield They were met there by Mrs. Hampton Burke who returned from Denver as her sister, Mrs W. N. McMillen has sufficently recovered as to permit her to leave. Mr. and Mrs. Prime Paxton and son Charles of Kanosh called at Black Rock Ranch. W. A. Miller of Inglewood. Calif ornia and father of Merrill Miller, is visiting at the Merrill Miller home. Mr. and Mrs. H G. Baiser and Mr. and Mrs. C A. Burt, all of Salt Lake City were week-end guests of the Merrill Millers. The Thompsons were returning froma visit to Louisiana where they spent two weeks with their daughter, Shirley and family. Mrs. Maude McGuire arrived from Iowa to be with her sister Mrs. Joe Pargis on the death of Mr. Pargis. Funeral services for Mrs. Pargis were held Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Parvell and Mr. and Mrs. Vernal DeVanter were down from Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Larsen, Mrs. Margaret Ogden, Mrs. Caila Ivie, Mrs. Clar-iece Clar-iece Larsen, and Mrr. Effie Allen of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Roger-son Roger-son and daughters Myrna and Beatrice, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Mayer and children of Mona, Mrs. Anita Crawford and George Mayer from Delta. Mr. and Mrs. Narmon Johnson and Mrs.Effie Johnson of Los Angeles drove up to be here for the funeral. Mrs. Mary Johnson and Ross returned home with them Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nielson and Mrs. Jean Ashby spent Friday in Salt Lake with their daughter, Mrs. Colleen Fowler and Miss Roberta Nielson. Mr. and Mrs. Nephi Schwabb and little son visited Jeanett's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Over-son Over-son before returning to Lund, Nev, Eugene Overson is home from BAC Mr. and Mrs. Louis Overson and family spent Saturday seeing Leh man's caves. Ray Wilkins is home from the Navy for a visit with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Wil kins and girls. Mrs. Barbara Anderson and child ren from Richfield are here visit ing with her parents while Ray is home. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Burnham and children are visitig here from Idaho Falls. Thursday Mrs. Mina Overson, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Mrs. Mary Smith, Mrs. Mayme Pargis and Mrs Maude McGuire, visited in Suther land for the afternoon with Mrs. Mrs. Hettie Johnson on her birth day. Mrs. Muriel Burnham and Mrs. Effie Johnson were also a-mong a-mong the visitors. From Oak City were Lydia Finlinson, Mrs. Frankie Finlinson, Mrs. Muris Nielson and Mrs. Mary Finlinson.. The after noon was spent just visiting. Miss JoAnn Johnson left Tues day for Los Angeles. She is visit ing her aunt Mrs. Georgia Ben son. Here from Santa Monica Calif., visiting with Mr. and Mrs. C E. Freer are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mallet and Mrs. Florence Lee. Sunday afternoon they all visited Lehaman's caves. Herbert Abegglen made a bus iness trip to Salt Lake over the weekend. Mrs. Alta Thomas and family were down from Magna Sunday visiting at the Jim Smith home. Frank Clark returned home with them. Mrs. Elwod Dean and two children from Concord, Calif., is also visiting at her parents home. Mrs. Evelyn Hogan left for a visit in Salt Lake Monday. Mrs. Ruth Bowers attended a funeral In Nephi, Monday for her grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Tillman Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Johnson John-son visited at the Lile Johnson home Sunday. An excellent dinner was served ser-ved in the dinning room of the Masonic Temple and afterward the Grand Lodgeh eld its annual visitation visit-ation with Franklin Lodge of Cedar City and Albert Pike Lodge of Milford sitting in joint session at Milford. Everyone enjoyed the day's activities and while the men were in lodge the non-Masons and wives of the Masons enjoyed a program put on by several of the Milford high school students in the school auditorium. The services were held here Sunday and were attended by many out' of town relatives and old friends, i His son, Alvin, living in Seward, Alaska was present for the funeral and had been able to visit with Sam in Salt Lake before death came. All members of the immediate immed-iate family were here as well as several of the Stout family, the R. B. Ashby, and Than Ashby families fam-ilies and many more. Janice Nielson, daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Nielson is in Salt Lake where she expects to spend the summer helping at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Dutson and Luella and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Dutson and Darlene drove to Dove Creek, Colorado, Saturday to visit Df.hlia's family. They returned Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lovell left Thursday by train for Los Angeles Calif., where they will visit relat ives for a few days. Margene Finlinson visited over the weekend with the Fielding family in Payson. Margene and Barbara Fielding leave the latter part of the week for West Yellowstone, Yellow-stone, Montana, where they have employment for the summer. Dick Nielson accompained some cattle to Los Angeles last week and visited while there with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Larson. He went with them to the wedding reception recep-tion of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Johnson. John-son. Mrs. Johnson was the former Leda Biglow. in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Turner have had their daughter, Myrna and children, of Orem, visiting thm. Mrs. Borg returned home leaving the children for a longer stay. Sunday evening the program in church was given by the Aaronic Preisthood under the direction of Phill Nielson. A boys chorus did all the singing and was conducted by Eugene Bensen, with Gary Nielson Niel-son as accompanist. Talks were given by Wardell Nielson, Roger Overson, Raymond Vest and Dee Nielson. Barton Shipley, Bevan Thompson Dee Nielson and Eugene Eu-gene Benson, sang "Bless This House". Talk by J. A. Banks and remarks by Bishop Earl Great-house. Great-house. Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Lile Johnson Mrs. Mina Overson and Mrs. Muriel Burnham attended attend-ed a wedding reception in Spring-ville Spring-ville for Mr. and Mrs. Norman Johnson. Sunday afternoon a lovely Trous seau Tea was given by Mrs. Mel-vin Mel-vin Roper for her daughter, Afton. Many friends called to see the lovely handwork of the coming bride and her mother and friends. A Primary social was held at the home of Mrs. Emma Talbot. Nineteen primary workers were present to enjoy the games and refreshments. Miss Margene Anderson visited in Provo last week. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Jacobson visited In Lehi last week with their daughter Arvilla and family. Mrs. Ruth Anderson spent a few days at Pleasant Grove last week and attended the graduation gradua-tion exercises of her daughter, Ber nice. Mr. and Mrs. Alden Nielson and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olsen were in Beaver last week for the grad- ' uation exercises of their sister, Physilis. Mrs. Ethelyn Bennett and her son Stanley were Oak City visitors from Holden. Stanley has recently been released from the Army. A M.I.A. meeting that was enjoyed en-joyed and well attended was Tuesday Tues-day evening, when LeRay McAllister McAllis-ter showed pictures of Germany and other Euporian countries. He also entertained those present with vocal solos in his usual fine rendition. ren-dition. A wedding dance and shower will be held Saturday May 30th at the Oak City recreation hall for Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dutson. Bishop Don Anderson and Gary Roper spent 2 weeks in Idaho at their farms. Mr. Cecil LaRue formerly employed em-ployed on the railroad here has taken a job in California. The Junior Sunday School May Day party was indeed a successful affair. Everyone enjoyed the program pro-gram in which all the children participated. Janice Hanson, Inez Nielson and JoAnn Bradfield were among the band members playing Monday in Provo at the Lions Convention. RELAX . . .
