White carnations and red tulips decorated the entertaining rooms and the red and white scheme was carried out in the lunch. Mrs. W. R. Halliday gave a report on the worK of the United Nations and George Scott gave a talk "The American Heritage." Miss Alma Shaffer played "Moonlight Son-ota" Son-ota" on the piano and Elmo Hansen, Han-sen, accompanied bv Mrs. Han sen, played two clarinet solos. Mrs. Moffett Hostess For Bridge-Luncheon Mrs. B. F. Moffett was hostess Saturday for a bridge-luncheon at the Silver Star cafe. Acacia and pink sweet peas centered the six luncheon tables. High score prize was taken by Mrs. La-Vere La-Vere J. Wadley, Mrs. W. J. Walter won second high, Mrs. L. R. Pett the consolation favor, and Mrs. David S. Taylor the cut prize. Geniel Thornton, American Fork, was recently elected recreational recrea-tional director of the Associated Women Students Council at Brig-ham Brig-ham Ycung University. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Thornton, American Fork, Miss Thornton graduated from American Fork high school. A sophomore at BYU, Miss Thornton is affiliated with Y Calcares and Fidelas social units, a member of the Womens Intra-Mural Intra-Mural Athletic Council. She is majoring . in physical education. R. W. MADSEN SON OF MOTHER OF '49 . Mrs. Abbie Rees Madsen, Brig-ham Brig-ham City, mother of R. W. Mad-sen, Mad-sen, American Fork, has been chosen Utah Mother for 1949, it was announced last week by Mrs. Sheldon Allred, Price, chairman of the American Mother committee commit-tee of the Golden Rule foundation. founda-tion. Mrs. Madsen is now a candidate candi-date for the American Mother of the year who will be named this month in New York City. On May 4 and 5, she will be among delegates at the American Motn-er Motn-er Institure in New York City. Mrs. Madsen, 65, Is the mother, of 14 living children; ; At present she is a member of the North Box Elder stake Sunday School board. She was president of the Brigham City Kindergarten club and member of the National ' Home and Family Living program there. During World War II she served 100 hours with the Red Cross. She served 15 years on the stake Relief Society board. She has done some writing and had her poems published in the Improvement Era, the Relief Society So-ciety magazine and the Box Elder News. She has also been a correspondent for the Brigham City News Journal. Besides her 14 children Mrs. Madsen has 38 grandchildren, four of them being Koiana Maa- sen. Mrs. Junior (Janice Madsen) Chilton.
