Show - THURSDAY, NOVEMBER ,j THE LEHI SUN, LEHI, UTAH PAGE FOUR -' tig - S Young-Farnsworth Marriage Solomized At Temple Exchanging marriage vows in the Salt Lake LDS temple Wednesday Wed-nesday morning, Nov. 3, were Miss Miriam Young and Dean S. Farnsworth. The ceremony was performed by the bride's father, Elder Clifford E. Young, assistant to the Council of the Twelve. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Taylor Farnsworth, Beaver. Mrs. George J. Cannan, aunt of the bride, was hostess to members mem-bers of the two families for a wedding breakfast at her home, 213 Eighth avenue, Salt Lake City. Wednesday evening open house was held at the Young home where almost 400 friends called to offer felicitations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth. For the occasion the bride wore a white crepe dinner dress and carried a bouquet of white bridal roses. Receiving with the bride and groom were Mrs. Chauncey D. Harris, sister of the bride, Clifford E. Young, and the parents par-ents of the groom. Guests were greeted by Mrs. J. Boyd Page, sister of the bride, and Leland S. Priday, brother-in-law of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Holley had charge of the dining room. Mrs. Holley and Mrs. Leland S. Priday poured, andj assisting with the serving were Mrs. A. Clyde Hill, Miss Helen Reimschiissel, Miss Joy Greene, Miss Miriam Barker, and Miss Jean Briggs. Mrs. Hugo Reimschiissel Reims-chiissel presided over the refreshments. refresh-ments. Mrs. Clifford E. Young Jr., Mrs. Max Robbins, sister of the groom, and Miss Margaret Hales cared for the gift rooms. Mr. Young Jr., Mr. Robbins, and Chauncey D. Harris also helped with the entertaining. The newlyweds are honeymooning honey-mooning in Arizano, Mexico and California. Upon their return they will make a home in American Amer-ican Fork while the groom continues con-tinues his studies at the Brigham Young university. V . , v t r . 1 i . Lovely yellow "mums" decorated the tables and each of the guests was presented with a box of chocolates. An excellent program, of singing, sing-ing, dancing, readings and vaudeville vaude-ville was presented by the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university service clubs. David L. Greenwood, Al- vin E. Monson and Ray Beers had charge of arrangements. Alpine Matron Observes Seventieth Birthday Children of Mrs. Grace Bate-man. Bate-man. Aloine. were hosts at a large party in the banquet room of the Alpine ward church Saturday Satur-day evening in honor of her 70th birthday which occurred Sunday. The program preceding the lunch was in charge of ; LaVar Bateman, Lehi. a grandson. A tribute to his grandmother was given by Clyde Bair, Ross Burgess Berniece Christiansen, and Mrs LaVar Bateman each sang two solos, and Beverly Bateman gave a reading. Written by Mrs. Dale Burgess, original verses telling the story of Mrs. Bateman's life were much enjoyed. A trumpet solo by Vern Clark completed the program. Birthday cakes centered the tables which were decorated with American Beauty roses, white chrysanthemums and lighted tapers. The roses were the eif t of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bair. Glen wood Springs, close friends of the honored guest, who were un able to attend. Lunch was served to 112. Ed ward W. Burgess acted as toast master and toasts were proposed by members of the family and mends. Mrs. Bateman was born in Al pine Nov. 7, 1878, the daughter of Fred C. and Angelia Vance Clark. She married David W. Bateman Aug. 17, 1898. He died Sept. -21, 1925. Mrs. Bateman has spent much of her life as a practical nurse in Alpine, going to help the sick whenever called. She worked in the Young Woman's Wom-an's Mutual Improvement association asso-ciation when a girl and for many years was a member of the ward choir Her, children, who were hosts, are Mr. and Mrs. Bernell Bateman, Bate-man, Lehi; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bair, Glenwood Springs, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bateman, American Fork; Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Mayne, Glenwood Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bateman, Alpine, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cole, Tooele." Also present were Mrs. Bateman's 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Coming from a distance to attend at-tend the function were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bateman and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Walton, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Junior Literary League First regular meeting of the Junior Literary League was held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Homer F. Royle with Mrs. Walton E. Foulger cohostess. Mr. and Mrs. John Hutchings, Lehi, brought their museum collection of Indian artifacts and told of their findings. Mrs. Clark K Brown, president, was in charge and those present were Mrs. Len-nis Len-nis E. Abel, Mrs.-Neldon Birk, Mrs. Myron Boley, Mrs. Ernest Cook, Mrs. Earl Chadwick, Mrs. F. Haws Durfey, Mrs. Dean R. Garrett. Mrs. E. Vernon Holin-drake, Holin-drake, Mrs. Meda Hunsaker, Mrs. Glen Maxwell, Mrs. Lynn Milne, Mrs. Alvin E. Monson, Mrs. Edwin K. Oscarson. Mrs. Ronald Prire Mrs. Velda Shumway, and Mrs. James MacMillan who was a special guest. Miss Elaine Miller To Be December Bride Mr flnrf Mrs Rollo M. Miller are announcing the engagement of their daughter Elaine to jjoh-ald jjoh-ald G. Parry, son of Mrs. Dan J. Parry, Los Angeles, Cal. Following graduation from the American Fork High School in 1941, Miss Miller worked for a short time in Salt Lake City. For the past six years she has been employed in the office of the Utah Poultry Dressing plant in American Fork. Mr. Parry attended school in Los Angeles, spent lour years in the U. S. Navy, and since his discharge; dis-charge; Dec. 16, 1946, has been employed in the experimental department at North American Aviation. Inc.. in Los Angeles. The marriage date has been set for Dec 3, and will take place in the Salt Lake LDS temple The Wednesday following parents of the bride-elect will be hosts at a reception in Firmage Hall. The couple plans to make a home in American Fork for the present. Clubs and Socials Monday evenins dinner Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hansen were Mr. and Mrs. James Soencer and Mrs. Quentin Spencer, Wendell, Wen-dell, Idaho. Ladies Literary Mrs. Parley J. Bennion and Mrs. James MacMillan were joint hostesses to the Ladies Literary club Thursday afternoon at the Bennion home. Mrs. W. R. Halli day, program chairman, gave an interesting talk on "Fine Arts", telling of achievements in the field of music, painting and sculpture. Mrs. K. J. Bird, a guest, told of her trip to New York, Washington, D. C, and oth er eastern cities. Dessert lunch was served to 19 ladies. Sixth Ward Fireside Miss LaRae Batchelor was hos-ess hos-ess to Sixth ward Juniors, Gleaners Glean-ers and M Men Sunday evening. Doris Adams read a paper, "The Importance of Firesides and How They Should Be Carried Out." A general discussion followed. A vocal solo by Harry Anderson and a violin solo by Miss Batchelor were enjoyed. Herbert Pawlow- ski and Glenda Abel also took part on the program and there was community singing followed by refreshments. Birthday of Mrs. Thomas Hansen, Han-sen, Nov. 5 was celebrated at her home Sunday. The family enjoyed en-joyed a delicious chicken dinner din-ner with a huge birthday cake as centerpiece for the table. The cake was made 'by a daughter, Mrs. Elmo Russon, Lehi. Present were Mr. anc$ Mrs. Russon, Merlin, Mer-lin, DeAnn" and Kay, Lehi; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hansen, Janet, Joan, Kenneth Jr. and Dan, Pleasant Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Williams" and Lynn, Orem, the guest of honor and Mr. Hansen. Pinochle Nine Mrs. William R. Smart Jr. was hostess to the Pinochle Nine Thursday. Prizes were taken by Mrs. George E. Jones, Mrs. Leo B. Nelson, and Mrs. E. F. Evans who was a special guest. Baker entertained aj; a family party Monday evening complimentary to Mr. Bakers mother, Mrs William Baker, St. George, and his brother, Rulon E. Baker and family, Idaho Falls. Coming from Provo were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur R. Baker, Mr. 'and Mrs. Grant T. Baker, and Mr. and Mrs. LeGrande J. Baker. The mother, who has been visiting with her children for several weeks, will be returning to her home soon. Mrs. Carl Ohran was hostess to her bridge club Wednesday evening eve-ning of last week. Mrs. Fred L. Fish won the prize for high score second prize went to Mrs. Grant W. Schaumburg, and the consolation consola-tion favor was taken by Mrs. George B. Brown. Other mem bers of the group are Mrs. Robert J. Prout, Mrs. Carl V. Roonev. Mrs. William R. Smart Jr., and Mrs. Robert Weeks. Plans were made for a Christmas party Dec. 22. Junior Ladies Literary Miss Bertha Clarke who re- cenuy returned from serving witn tne Red Cross in Germany, will be the guest speaker of the Junior Ladies Literary club tonight to-night (Thursday, Nov. 11). Seated, C Graff, Mrs. June Kooinson - .-v. FEDERATED PRESIDENTS MEET Presidents of the Federated Women's clubs of Utah county met in Pleasant Grove Saturday to hear the report of Mrs. O. J. Kingston, state president, who has just returned from the national na-tional convention of Federated Women held in Washington, D. C. She stressed the fostering of international understanding, and asked the assistance of all federated fed-erated and unfederated clubwomen club-women in bettering relations with other countries. Veterans assistance was urged as a project for junior club women. Other speakers were Mrs. I. R. Morrison, Salt Lake City, state first vice president; Mrs. Harold j Christensen, Springville, state second vice president; and Mrs. Wendell Erlandsen, Payson, president pres-ident of the Nebo district. Mrs. George Worthen, Provo, district president, presided at the meeting, which was under the direction of Mrs. Leo P. Harvey and Miss Estelle Fenton. Music was directed by Mrs. S. Dwight Packard. Utacen Mrs. Ray C. Nelson reviewed the book "Sweet Love Remembered" (Helen Cortez Stafford) for the Utacen literary club Monday evening. eve-ning. Miss Rue Ann and Jeanine Winter sang the "Glow Worm", Mrs. Henry Chipman reported on the last session of the Women's Legislative Council, Mrs. Wilbur Harding gave the report "What's New in the News", and the Litany was read by Mrs. Ethan Peay. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. A. F. Coleman with Mrs. Alma Hansen and Mrs. Alvin Teuscher assisting the hostess.
