They just put them up on a pedestal and leave them there. But I wouldn't say that that was bo in our town. Look at any married mar-ried couple like the Cuppers. Jane wouldn't nag if Dee spent his evenings "with the boys" but actually Dee likes nothing better than to stay norm by the fire, sharing a glass of beer with Jane, playing cribbage, or just talking. And when he does go out, for an afternoon of fishing down at Seward's Creek, or for an evening glass of beer at Andy Botkin's Garden Tavern, Jane is almost always al-ways with him (except when she's got a spot of baking in the oven). From where I sit, respect doesn't rule out everyday companionship com-panionship . . . and never should. They go together essential parts of a successful marriage. Copyright, 1917, Vnitea States Brewers Foundation Brain Surgery filters Outlook Morally Degenerate Made Over Into a Useful Society Member. DETROIT. That a cigar smoking, smok-ing, morally degenerate 28-year-old woman may be transformed into a useful member of society by a delicate del-icate brain operation was revealed by staff doctors at Wayne county general hospital. The woman, described by doctors as "attractive," has a sordid police record of commercial immorality, theft, mayhem and drug addiction that began when she was .less than 10 years old. She has spent 15 years in penal institutions, according to Dr. Louis S. Lipschutz, clinical director of the hospital. Her name is a secret. Her case was reported to the Michigan society of neurology and psychiatry with the authorization of Dr. Lipschutz and Dr. T. K. Gruber, superintendent of the hospital. Claims Two Killings. The woman claimed to have killed two persons, including a former husband, hus-band, "because I wasn't going to let any other woman have him and I knew I couldn't keep him." Dr. Lipschutz told teporters, however, that there is no evidence to support her claim. The woman, picked up by Detroit police on a minor charge, was sent to the hospital on the strength of 1 her long record, which was documented docu-mented by FBI officers from coast to coast, Dr. Lipschutz said. "We had the choice of letting this woman continue in her present vicissitudes vicis-situdes with every reason to expect that she would spend another 15 or even 30 years in institutions," he explained", "or of performing the operation." . With the consent of relatives, Dr. Aage Nielssen performed a frontal lobotomy, which Dr. Lipschutz said "severs the connection between the part of the brain responsible for planning and carrying out desires, and the other parts of the nervous system which translate them t into action." Thoughts Remain Same. "Her thought content will remain the same," the clinical director continued. con-tinued. "The abnormal ideas will still be there. But if we were successful suc-cessful the push to translate these ideas into abnormal actions will not be there." Following the operation 'about a rflonth ago, the woman said her "outlook on life" had changed. Dr. Lipschutz said psychological tests prove that the, woman, hitherto a confirmed liar, now is telling the truth. Dr. Lipschutz said the operation is not new but that its application in such cases is relatively rare, as far as he knows. He has heard of other such cases, he said, but in all 6t them the patient died "or the results were questionable." The hospitals interest in the case centers in its possible application, if successful, to sex criminals. "What damaging results the oper. ation may have, as well as good, remains re-mains to be determined," Dr. Lipschutz Lip-schutz concluded. Clean Hair Accessories , It's common practice to wash the comb and brush after the weekly shampoo, but how many remember to wash the little combs, barettes, and hair pins that are worn continually? con-tinually? Swish all your accessories for hair grooming in a basin of warm sudsy water once a week, or whenever you wash your hair. This will not only assure you of a completely com-pletely clean head, but also lessen the danger of re-infection, if you're trying to rid yourself of troublesome trouble-some dandruff. vie Lsy5Ksi3 becoming Available Again for Farm Families The back-breaking fhnr Af Wn tU w v w4 washing and ironing is becoming only a memory for many more farm families as new laundry equipment becomes available, avail-able, again. A vaulted chamber where the temperature is always 15 degrees, de-grees, with relative humidity of less than 10 per cent, has been installed at the SKF ball and roller bearing plants. , Metallurgists say these readings read-ings duplicate a midsummer day in the desert, with low humidity and heat combined to produce pleasant dryness. Millions of anti-friction bearings bear-ings used throughout the United States industry are stored temporarily tem-porarily in the "desert room" until they can be packed in oil for shipments. , Correct Position Home management specialists report re-port that 80 per cent more energy is required to stand than to sit, so the homemaker should be encouraged encour-aged to Bit while doing as many tasks as possible. State Across from Lehi Hospital With the President's proposal for the discontinuance of Selective Service on March 31, America will rely on voluntary enlistments for the maintenance of the Regular Army at authorized strength. , In view of world conditions today, this is a step of the gravest importance to every American citizen. Never before in history has any nation raised and maintained a million-man army by the volunteer pystem alone. Our ideals, our belief in individual freedom, our safety and our duty to promote world peace all are bound up in this decision. This is your Army, and voluntary enlistment is your choice. It must not fail. With your help it will not fail. The Army must continue to provide adequate occupa-- occupa-- tion forces overseas, to supply these forces, and to help in keeping America strong and secure. Your help and understanding can do much to encourage en-courage a steady flow, of 3-year voluntary enlistments, necessary to sound training and the efficient performance of the Army's task. When you discuss this subject with your sons, brothers, husbands or friends who may be considering an Army career, bear in mind the advantages offered by a 3-vear enlistment. Among them are the choice of branch of service and of overseas theater where openings exist, and the opportunity for thorough training in valuable skills. A job in the new Regular Army compares favorably with the average in industry, and has more opportunities for promotion than most. You can help by giving your respect and support to the man who enlists voluntarily to do his part in carrying carry-ing out your country's world-wide obligations to build a peace that will endure.
