And although we have made every effort to protect our growers our supply is also limited. It may not be enough to fill the needs of all sugar beet growers on the basis of the greatly increased beet acreage which is being signed for this spring. Meantime we are allotting to growers, while the supply lasts, 100 pounds of Treble Superphosphate and 100 pounds of Ammonium Sulphate (nitrogen fertilizer), or a still more limited amount of mixed Si commercial fertilizer. If you are going to grow beets this year, come in and see us at once for your fertilizer allotment . . . while the supply lasts or ask your fieldman. UTAH - IDAHO SUGAR CO. Apply Varnish to Clean Floor in Warm Room Several kinds of varnish are used for wood finishing, such as spar, rubbing, rub-bing, flat and high gloss, which are all applied in the same manner, says Practical Builder. Since varnish var-nish is one of the materials prepared pre-pared ready for use, it should not be thinned. Be sure brush is clean. Both the surface to be varnished and the room in which the varnishing varnish-ing is done should be clean and free from dust and at least 70 degrees in temperature. Work the brush into the varnish thoroughly enough to allow the stock to be well filled with the material. It is not necessary to dip the brush the full length bristle into the varnish; about two-thirds two-thirds of its length is sufficient. Slap the brush lightly on the in-side in-side of the pot to remove the sur-plus sur-plus material. Do not wipe the brush on the' edge of the pet as a sufficient amount of material will not remain in it Flow the varnish onto the surface so as to cover it entirely. Varnish will flow out free from brush marks and does not need to be laid off. Do not attempt to patch places after the varnish has partly set Allow it to dry and then go over the place requiring more varnish. Parents Should Co-Operate In Filing Birth Certificate A birth certificate can become a very importai.t document tor matters mat-ters of employment, foreign travel and certain rights and privileges where one is often required. It is every child's birthright and every parent's responsiblity to have a properly recorded certificate. For this reason prospective parents should be prepared well in advance of their baby's birth with all necessary nec-essary information. The child's name should be selected ahead ot time one for a boy and one for a girl so that there need be no delay de-lay in naming the baby. At the time of the new mother's admission to the hospital, the cer- i tificate ir made out according to the information she gives. The hospital i also assumes responsibility for so-curing so-curing necessary information from the attending physician and filing the birth record with the local registrar reg-istrar within 10 days of birth. If the child is born at home, the pliysi- ' cian should be charged with the ! duty of filing the record within 10 days. In areas with local or countv health departments, parents should ; notify their health officer, who can j assist them In obtaining the needed Information. Finds Sweets Do Not L Increase Children's Carles Facts supporting the theory that carbohydrates are not the cause of increased dental caries incidence were reported by Capt. J. D. King of the scientific stafT of the Medical Medi-cal Research Council of Great Britain Brit-ain in an article in the Lancet, one of the leading authoritative British medical journals. "The popular theory that sweets and chocolate cause teeth to decay is not supported by investigations carried out over a period of up to two years upon young children of an age when rapid growth is obtained," ob-tained," he stated. "Carbohydrate supplement in the form of boiled sweets and chocolate-covered biscuits bis-cuits were supplied to the children to the full extent of the rations allowed, al-lowed, and in some cases in excess. "The supplements were given to them immediately before going to bed and after cleansing the mouth and teeth. - No increase in caries ao tivity was found in the children over periods of from six months to two years. Indeed, at the end of the test, previously active caries became be-came arrested. It seems fairly safe to assume, in the light of this report, re-port, that the old bogey of bad teeth can no longer be held against the consumption of such nutritious foods as sweets and chocolates." Producing Turpentine j Gum turpentine, or gum spirits, is obtained in this country from the long leaf pine forests of the south-1 em states. The trees are methodical- j ly slashed with a long knife and j the oleo-resin from the wounds is , collected in half gallon to gallon j cups. The crude gum thus obtained ' is likely to include twigs, tits of bark, and dirt It is dumped into barrels and the barrels are hauled to a large copper still. Water is added to . the oleo-resin in the still and then the still is heated on a wood fire. The turpentine is distilled dis-tilled oil together with the steam leaving rosin in the sua. fine wooa also is utilized, and the turpentine is steam distilled from the wood which has been ground into small pieces accessible to the steam. Steam distilled turpentine is used in paint and varnish products in the same way and for the same pur. poses as the gum spirits SAVE EVERY DAY AT WESTERN Western Giant Tires 600x16 1480 Plus tax Worth $3.00 more No higher grade made.
