TOKYO. Japan's old military machine is "as dead as a drowned rat," in the opinion of the highest officers In the supreme Allied command. com-mand. The fact that the old military machine ma-chine is dead, however, does not mean that a new one could not be created. High Allied officials here are almost al-most unanimous in the opinion that some form of Allied supervision over Japan must be maintained for many years after an eventual peace treaty has been signed. A consensus of the highest officers offi-cers at Allied headquarters shows these highlights: The Jap government and people generally are cooperating with the Allied command to the best of their ability and the occupation is in most respects an outstanding success. Most Japanese are trying faithfully faith-fully to live up to the terms of the Potsdam declaration, under which they surrendered, and the various directives issued by General Mac-Arthur. Mac-Arthur. There has been no indication to date that any Japanese group is trying try-ing to. revive militarism. Ultra-Nationalist Ultra-Nationalist societies, such as the Black Dragon, seem to have disappeared. dis-appeared. Repatriated soldiers generally are settling down to peacetime pursuits and there has been no evidence that any of them has been engaged in undercover activity. ' Former army officers are engaged en-gaged in occupations ranging from bootblacks to farmers ,and manufacturers, manu-facturers, j Administrative heads of the former for-mer Japanese armed forces cooperated coop-erated in the vast problem of getting get-ting Japanese soldiers and sailors home from overseas, collecting and destroying munitions, weapons and military equipment, and even' in surrender of secret archives and records. A considerable amount of evidence evi-dence surrendered by the former general staffs of the old imperial army and navy has been used by the prosecution in the Tokyo "war crimes trials. The Japanese generally seem to be well satisfied with the new national na-tional consitution which renounces war. Want Ads ELECTROLUX CLEANER AND AND AIR PURIFIER Sales and Service. Owen Whitehead P. Parents south of the Mason-Dixon line are more likely to have twins than those who live in crisper climates, a professor profes-sor of anatomy reports. But 'northwestern 'north-western Wisconsin is right up there when it comes to twins, he says. Dr. George W. B. Hamlett, professor pro-fessor at Louisiana State university medical school here, said a research re-search of "twinning" had developed the following facts: In most southern states the rate of twins is one set out of every 75 births. The national average is 1 of 95. Georgia and Florida produce fewer few-er twins per birth than the other Dixie states, but still remain above the national average. New England parents are less likely than other groups to hslve twins. They average 1 set in every 100 births. There is a small section of Minnesota,, Min-nesota,, Wisconsin and North Dakota Dako-ta which comes closest to cracking crack-ing the south's monopoly on twins. This section is settled principaUy by persons of Scandinavian descent. Dad's Old Line Blown Sky High, Declares Professor SAN JOSE. CALIF. When dad starts out, "When I was your age'.' you can shut him off with: "You were a whole lot younger mentally, too." According to Prof. Dwight Ben-tel Ben-tel of San Jose State college's journalism jour-nalism department, "Youngsters today to-day are more mature mentally than their parents were at the same age." And he exclaims, , "Thank heaven." Nice Little Modern Home in good location. Modern, gas in kitchen. '$4500. 189 E. 4 N., Lehi. 2-27.
