Miss Lela Erickson attended a meeting of her club in Salt Lake City Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Giles and daughter, Beth, of Salt Lake City visited Saturday and Sunday with Misses Rachael and Idella Bone. Mrs. Dorothy Ivers entertained the Ace High Bridge club last week. Mrs. Boyd J. Larsen was a special agent. Mrs. W. D. Watkins won first prize, Mrs. Larsen won second, and Mrs. Jasper Eves of American Fork won the bingo prize. A conjoint meeting of the Letter Let-ter Carriers' associations of Lehi, A. F. and P. G.. was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ma Huggard in American Fork. Attending from Lehi were Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lott, Wayne Powell, Adolph Hunger, Hun-ger, Chapter Pres. John Hutchings and Auxiliary Pres. Mrs. John Hutchings. Franklin L. Davenport of Provo, a state officer, conducted conduct-ed a discussion of letter carrier problems. Refreshments were served. Following the theme, "The prepared teacher the strength of the Sunday School," the convention will be conducted by Carl F. Eyring of the general board. The first meeting will be held at 9 a.m. for all stake board members, mem-bers, stake presidencies, and high councilmen in charge of Sunday School work. A general session will be held at 2 p.m. for all ward and stake officers and teachers, ward bishoprics, and other interested inter-ested parties. Merna Jackson To Wed Next Week Announcement, ia hpintr ' mnA . - o this week of the engagement and forthcoming marriage of Miss Merna Jackson, daughter of Mrs. Alice Jackson and the late Ephraim Jackson of this city, to William H. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Georjre H. Nelson of Provo. The young couple will be united in a Salt Lake Temple ceremony, Feb. 11. on the weddine1 dav of the bride's mother. Following a short honeymoon in California they will make their., home in Provo. The bride-to-be is a graduate of the Lehi high school, and has been an active member of the Fourth ward. She was emnlnved for a short time at Penney's store in American b ork. Mr. Nelson is a graduate of the Spanish Fork high school and was recently released from the army after four years service, two of which were spent in the Pacific!. A reception honoring .thei new. lyweds will be held February 12. Abram L Goates j Buried Here Friday Funeral services were held Friday Fri-day at the Larkin mortuary for Abram L. Goates, 64, of Salt Lake City, who died in a Salt Lake hospital hos-pital Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. of a heart ailment. Burial was in the Lehi City Cemetery. Born in Lehi, October 27, 1882, he was a son of James T. and Mary Losee Goates. He received his early education here and was employed at the local sugar factory before his marriage in the Salt Lake Temple in April, 1908, to Alta Hart. After his marriage he spent the major part of his life as a chemist for the Utah-Idaho Sugar Sug-ar Co, at Nampa, Ida., Brigham City, and Elsinore. For a short time he manufactured candy at Iehi. He was head chemist at the Springville-Mapleton Sugar Co. for eight years, where the couple built their home. For six years he was manager of the Idaho Pressed Brick Co. at Pocatello and while there served as counselor in the bishopric of the Third ward, Pocatello Po-catello stake. He had been active in church affairs until his health prohibited his taking active part. He is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter, Harold H. Goates and Mrs. LaPriel Hogan of Ogden, and Donald K. Goates of Salt Lake City; four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: sis-ters: Mrs. N. M. (Rebecca) Pulley, Pul-ley, American Fork; D. R. Goates, Centerfield, Utah; Virgil Goates, St. George; J. E. Goates, Provo, and Mrs. Rulon J. (Reva) Fox, Lehi. He married Anna Ballan-tine Ballan-tine in Kronestadt, Hungary, July 15, 1886. After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they came to the United States, making their home in Lehi, where he worked as a farmer and laborer. Hi3 home grounds were always neat, for he had learned in the old country to make use of every inch of soil. He was a staunch Church member, and held th office of High Priest. Mrs. Miller died in He is survived by one son, Carl, and one daughter, Mrs. Marie M. Thomas, Wales, Sanpete county. Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday at Cedar Valley. Burial was at Lehi. MOTHER OF LOCAL WOMAN DIES Mrs. Marie Newman Dean Ad-amson, Ad-amson, 41, mother of Mrs. Rex (Ardell) Zimmerman of this city, died Friday in American Fork of a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held Tuesday in American Am-erican Fork.
