Twin Towers fell and burned. The Pentagon Was breeched. America was railed upon In wanton ways we cannot understand. It seems our enemies were maniacs! Each anniversary, how many mourn Those victims, terrified and quite forlorn? Incredulous Americans salute The fire and rescue wearers of the boot! More than three hundred heard the frantic calls, And ran to rescue victims from their falls. Twin towers of New York were flamed with terror, As airplanes crashed with purpose not in error! Disasters, planned by cunning combinations, This plot astounded peoples of all nations. The World Trade Center and the Pentagon: The lives of thousands, mercilessly gone! Another errant aircraft speeded on To Washington and razed the Pentagon. The final flight, with passengers aroused, Crashed short of where the government is housed. The toll of death and devastation soared, As thousands died. And then, with one accord, The flags throughout America were flown, To mourn the dead, and claim them, as our own. Among them, New York's finest firemen died, As family sorrows mingled with their pride. And then, across America, their brothers In fire stations, with the help of others, Took off their boots and turned them into banks, Americans would overflow with thanks. The firemen in metropolis and town Bequeathed their boots, as symbols of renown. With hardly any heroes left alive, The families of New York's best survive, While generous Americans salute The fire and rescue wearers of the boot! r ire stations of Manhattan knew the drills. Their firemen answered calls with all their skills. They fought the city's fires around the clock, Disaster loomed, wherever they would walk. A tenement, a skyscraper aflame: The challenge of the firemen was the same. Aboard their trucks, they tracked the trail of smoke, To rescue souls, before they burn or choke. Their mercy mission: save imperiled lives. Their challenge: see that everyone survives. On such a clear and bright September morn, America was called, again, to mourn. That day of infamy and stark surprise Began with terror in the New York skies. Four airplanes commandeered by men from hell, Crashed crazily, where no one could foretell! With Lady Liberty upon the scene, Their plans were quite horrific and obscene. Insanely suicidal, unafraid, They crashed the teeming towers of World Trade. In Orem City, Public Safety crews Could not believe the monumental news! The World Trade Center! Mighty Pentagon: The lives of thousands, mercilessly gone! They filled their boots, as many people cried For other New York heroes, who had died. In three days, $80,000 flowed From Orem hearts, as blessings were bestowed. Heroes Among Us focus, much, on others, And they are there for sisters and for brothers! Let enemies and terrorists be warned: America's resolve shall not be scorned. Like firemen, proffering their precious lives, Though fragile, yet, our freedom still survives. As long as liberty and law are just, Our policy shall be "In God We Trust!" Each Anniversary, we pause to weep For those survivors, who may never sleep, Without remembrance of that 911. May God restore these precious things in Heaven! - By Clyde E. Weeks, Jr. |
