'. ,. . . w - (. : i i 1. i K rmiriirfiiinTi'iMiff'-fr---J y----------- Matt Woolsey Business and Marketing Matt Woolsey, the son of Ben and DeAnna Woolsey, is the Sterling Scholar in Business and Marketing for Orem High School. Matt has maintained a 4.0 GPA since 7th grade and last year passed 3 AP tests- with the highest score of 5 on the AP Calculus test. He is currently taking a difficult schedule of AP English, AP Physics, AP Statistics, and AP Government and Politics and still keeps his 4.0 GPA and has class ranking of 1. Matt is a semifinalist for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship competition. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National Honor Roll, and FBLA. He is also listed list-ed in Who's Who Among High School Students. He received a 33 on the ACT. Matt earned his Eagle Scout Award with 4 palms and is active in church . His sports passion is baseball where he lettered and was academic aca-demic all-region last year. Matt hopes to be accepted to BYU and will major in Business Accounting or Law. '4, Lindsay Bell SOCIAL STUDIES Lindsay Anne Bell is the daughter of Jim and Kristi Bell. Lindsay is the fourth child in a family of six girls; , she also has two brother-in-law, and a nephew. Lindsay is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Model UN, Orem Youth Council and Orem Heritage Commission. In her spare time Lindsay enjoys volunteering vol-unteering at the hospital, helping help-ing at an elementary school, playing lacrosse, playing the piano and guitar, playing with her nephew, and spending time with her family. She would like to thank her family for their constant love and support. Darrell Matthews Mathematics Darrell Matthews is the son of McKay and Adele Mathews. He was born and raised in Orem. He has two brothers and three sisters and a kitty. He has always enjoyed math and enjoys science too. Some of his hobbies are music, sports, and doing homework. He doesn't does-n't know what he wants to be when he grow up, but he plans to attend college at BYU after serving a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also enjoys the outdoors and loves hiking, biking snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. , 1 Alene Duersch Science Alene Duersch was born in beautiful Tacoma, Washington and is the seventh child of Win and Karen Duersch. She is currently cur-rently the President of the Orem High National Honor Society and science club. Alene also serves on Seminary Council and Band Council. Music has always been an important part of her life and she has played the piano for twelve years and the saxophone saxo-phone for eight years. She began playing soccer at age four, ran track for four years and is currently hoping to go to the State Swim Meet for the fourth year. This past summer Alene went to Girl's State where she enjoyed serving as a Senator. Alene also taught swim lessons this past summer and she found it particularly rewarding to instruct special needs children. Alene lifeguards life-guards a the Orem Fitness Center. K.J. Stratton Speech and Drama Keven John Stratton was born to Keven and Laurie Stratton. Keven has had the wonderful opportunity of being in numerous shows at Orem High including Les Miserables, and Bye Bye Birdie. He enjoys many various activities such as skiing, golfing and living life to its fullest. He is captain of the swim team this year as well as a member of the Show and Chamber Choir. He recently recent-ly had the opportunity to compete com-pete with the Orem High Shakespeare team which took first place sweepstakes in the Cedar City Shakespearean Competition. Keven is very grateful for all the love and support that he receives from his loving and supportive parents par-ents and seven younger siblings. Annie Jacob English Annie Jacob, daughter of Mark and Terri Jacob, has always had a fascination for the English Language. From a very young age she has been considered a vivacious reader and recognized as an exceptionally excep-tionally talented young writer. Annie, who has taken every writing class offered at Orem High School, has participated in several school publications, serving as a section editor for both the high school's literary magazine and yearbook, and as co-editor of the school's newspaper. Annie is also a member of Orem High's National Honors Society and Key Club. Beyond her high school experience, Annie has won writing contests. Recognized by peers and adults as a natural leader, Annie has led religious youth groups and is the supervisor of several employees at her job, as well. Her future goals include graduating from college col-lege in the field of communications, communica-tions, raising a family and publishing pub-lishing her own children's book series. Stephanie Bartlett Family and Consumer Science Stephanie is the daughter of Lynn and Patti Bartlett. She is currently serving as the historian histo-rian for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. In the spring she will serve as the historian for the Orem Youth Council. Stephanie enjoys playing the flute in the symphonic band, as well as participating in National Honor Society, Key Club and French Club. In her spare time she enjoys reading, eating, -shopping, sewing, crocheting cro-cheting and scrapbooking. Stephanie is excited to graduate gradu-ate this year and attend college col-lege next fall. y1 I n Clean or replace furnace filters once a month during the heating season. Willow Elaine Withy Visual Arts Willow Elaine Withy, daughter of Ms Catheryn Withy and Mr. Forester Withy, is honored to represent Orem High School in visual arts. She has been producing art since early childhood. Scholastically, Willow has been recognized in her achievements by the National Honor Roll and Who's Who Among American High School Students. She is now president of the Varsity Arts Club and has been a member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, (FCCLA) French Club and other clubs. Willow volunteered as a cast member in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in the 2002 Winter Olympics, and has competed in local, sectional and national competitions. Through skating, she has volunteered as an instructor for various programs. pro-grams. Jorge Gavilanes Foreign Language Jorge is the son of Jorge Gavilanes and Monica Salazar. He was born in Ecuador where he started learning English when he was 3 years old. He has continued learning English throughout his life and started French when he was 13. Besides knowing Spanish, English and French, he has started taking Sign Language classes and plans to keep learning other languages. He is a member of the National Honor Society, French Club, HOSA. He enjoys any type of outdoor activities, including snowskiing, scuba diving, and hiking. He is also part of club and school swim team and soccer soc-cer team. He plans to study at Brigham Young University and serve a two-year mission. 4 r Whitney Johnson Trade and Technical Education Whitney Brie Johnson is the daughter of Ron and Norma Johnson. Besides being Orem High's Trade and Technical Education Sterling Scholar, she is active in other school related activities. This year she is Student Body Secretary. She is a member two national clubs: FCCLA and Key Club, as well as the vice president of the Spanish Club. She is also on Tigerline, Orem High's video announcement announce-ment team. T She has loved being in her architectural class. Goals for the near future include attending college and majoring in either political science sci-ence or architecture. f -jj A Tiffany Gurney DANCE Orem High School's Dance Sterling Scholar is Tiffany Gurney, daughter of Bruce and Marilyn Gurney. Since Tiffany was a child, she has learned all forms of dance but has especially excelled in ballet. She has trained at Classical Ballet Conservatory, Rock Mountain Ballet, Brigham Young University's Ballet Showcase, Orem High School's Dance Company, and the Jillanna School in New Mexico. She has had teachers from New York City Ballet and Ballet West such as Connie Burton, Mark Lanham, Maria Tallchief, and Kyra Nichols. Tiffany has performed Snow Queen, Clara, and many other lead roles in her six years of doing the Nutcracker as well as the lead role of Lisa in La Fille Mai Gardee. Tiffany is also involved in the school's National Honor's Society and is on Orem High School's seminary sem-inary council. 1 ' ! Abby Hill Music Abby is the daughter of Jefl and Juanita Hill. Her love fa music has been developed through many unique opportu. nities: Playing piano for hospi. tal church services, singing fa rest homes, conducting orchestra orches-tra clinics at schools, perform, ing with her sister internationally, internation-ally, and using music therapy in Ecuadorian orphanages. She has received numerous awards through competitions and waj recently selected as Utah County's Junior Miss. Along with her musical interests, Abby excels in academics and athletic activities, including serving as Key Club secretary and president, Future Business Leaders of America vice president, and leader of the Orem Girls Lacrosse Team. She is determined to use her musical abilities to improve and enhance the lives of others. oth-ers. Steven Phillips COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY Joey is the youngest in his family of eight. He has always been interested in technology He has been a great student since his early years even receiving the Hope of America Award while in elementary; school. He has been involved in ' scouting from a young age and currently holds the rank of. Eagle Scout with four palms earned beyond that rank. He loves every sort of technology he can get his hands on from networking to programming to graphic arts. He is planning on serving a two-year mission for the LDS church after high school. After his mission, he will attend Utah Valley State College. He hopes to get a degree in secondary education and become a computertechnology computertech-nology teacher. ( 'i r |
