As funding for arts programs pro-grams in the schools decreases, the importance of tin.' ITA's influence in-fluence and support for t hi' arts becomes even more vital. "We're losing the arts, and PTA is one of the ways we can keep these arts programs in the schools," said Lisa Anderson. Region 9 IT A director. "It's wonderful that the kids have a vehicle to express their talent and that they can be recognized. I was really impressed with the art this year, of kids noticing things that adults didn't." Valentine's Day or "Singles Awareness Day," as it is also known is conveniently on a Saturday this year, which makes it possible for dates and pity parties to run longer. As for me, 1 know where I'll be this Valentine's Day singing my heart out in the choir show "A Tribute to the Music of Disney," all weekend (if I've recovered enough of a voice by then, that is). Tonight is our first night, so be sure to come see it. The name by which you know this holiday says a lot about your attitude toward it. Those who call it by its given name are usually either those who have a special spe-cial someone to celebrate it with, or those who simply don't have a preference either way. Either that, or you just like being rebellious and insist on calling call-ing holidays by alternative titles. I refer to the holiday as Valentine's Day, because I am more or less a hopeless (yet still single) romantic. I love cute scenarios, like watching someone get asked out in an adorable way, and the color rushing into the girl's cheeks so fast you start to worry about her blood pressure. My favorite Valentine candy (besides chocolate) is probably conversation hearts. There's really nothing noth-ing spectacular about them, other than the fact that they only come around once a year. The romantic in me has always wanted to try passing pass-ing a message to someone via a conversation heart, but the realist in me realizes that the other person would most likely not get the point and either eat it without reading, or simply throw it away. For this reason, I've never actually actu-ally done it. Whatever your persuasion persua-sion on the holiday, I hope you all have an enjoyable one single or otherwise.
