Orem helped themselves with a 3-1 win over Lehi, and Timpview did the rest by defeating de-feating Provo. It all added up to a Region 7 soccer championship for the Tigers, their first in over a dozen years. The game's first 20 minutes saw neither team able to put the ball away as Lehi's Riley Anderson and Orem's Brady Howard engaged in a tough, goal-keeping duel. Finally, Iiihi took the first lead when Andy Chamberlain scored a goal from .') yards out. Bruins end Dean Von Memmott ',K;IT; I ORKI VONWN! For the Mountain View Bruins, Bru-ins, their 6-5 win at Pleasant Grove May 9 went down as a bittersweet experience for them. While they did complete their two-game sweep against the formerly No. 1 ranked 5-A 5-A team, their May 9 victory couldn't yield for them the kind of goal they wanted: a chance at post -season play. That was because a victory over the Spanish Fork Dons had enabled the Lone Peak Knights to grab the spot as Region 4's fourth-seeded team for the state tournament. Had Orem girls take home another Jared Lloyd NORTH COUNTY Not surprisingly, the Orem girls track team won the Region 7 title on Thursday afternoon at Orem High School. Not surprisingly, Mindy Robins Rob-ins won several events. What was a surprise is the events she won as qualifying for state in some diverse events was the goal of Orem's versitile senior. Already a dominant force in the hurdles, on Thursday Robins instead competed in the long jump, the 100-meters, the 200-meters and the 4xl00meter relay and came away with first place in all four. : Cczzttsforycaazl Try iiiniiiviii I Ki I M HI T AO G North Orem location only Spaghettios mm A rewind Orem didn't let the Pioneers enjoy their 1-0 lead for long. The Tigers took advantage of some small, Pioneer mistakes to take over the game. In the first half's final 10 minutes, Tyler Boulter scored the first Orem goal. Teammate Team-mate Kendall Nielsen scored a tie-breaking a few minutes later. Just before halftime, Quinton LeBlanc scored the third goal. Baseball I Murray 12, Orem 2: At Murray, Mur-ray, after taking a 1-0 lead go solid season with a sweep of PG rewind Lone Peak dropped its home game to Spanish Fork, the Knights would have to face off with the Bruins in a play-in game at the end of last week. "We had beat their best pitcher Viking Egan Smith last Monday, and we knew they were in the middle of a three-game skid when we came here today," said Mountain Moun-tain View coach Chris Cooper. "When we watched them in warmups, they were a little flat. Our guys were up, though. The Tigers also had several runners excel during the first day of competition, let by Kendy Christensen. Christensen got things off strong for the Tigers with a 5:18.23 in the 1,600 meters, which is the fastest time for that distance in 4A this year. "It was pretty sweet," she said. "It was a personal record for me. It actually felt like we were going a lot slower out there." "I wanted to try and qualify in different events and I did pretty good," she said "I was having fun, trying something different." Tennis I Young wins region tennis title: It was another day at the office for Orem's A.J. Young on Friday afternoon at the Region Re-gion 7 tennis championships, as he continued his dominance at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 They made a great effort. We won't be going to state." Not going to state is one of the injustices of having to play in the loaded Region 4. "After finding out that Lone Peak won, which officially put us out it's going to be a big-time disappointment," Cooper said. "The hard part is going and having hav-ing to talk to these kids. There's no question in my mind we're a top 10 team in the state." Early in the game, Pleasant Grove pitcher Riley White forced the first two Bruins to ground out during the top of the first. A Mark Garrett single sin-gle and a Marcus Draper made it possible for the Bruins to go on a two-out, three-run rally at a high level, Orem ran away with the region crown by scoring scor-ing 84 points more than second-place second-place Springville. "The statement of this win was our balance," said Tiger coach Andy Lewis. "Last year we won big but didn't have any field throwers. This year we've had some young athletes step up. Everyone has wanted to win and been very dedicated." On the boy's side, the Timpview boys team scored 42 points in two events at the meet, sweeping the top three spots in the 100-meter dash and the top two places in the 200meter race. Those 42 points were enough to give the T'Birds the region title by 21 points over Orem.
