Because if they can't show their respect to other drivers driv-ers and obey the law, they should impound im-pound them. ... That's ridiculous that they're putting peoples' lives at risk." - Ashley Grunig "If people are abusing vehicles and endangering lives by being be-ing reckless, it sounds like a good idea." - Liberty "I would think it would depend de-pend on the severity. Back when I was a kid, you'd have people out racing their hot cars, Corvettes. They'll already get a ticket, their insurance will go sky high. That's already punishment. ... If anything happens, hap-pens, then yeah, they should lose all privileges." - Lisa Jarvis TfLitlM n acmes: ..-.-wi!,1-j.'..,.. ',.. ' f ) - ii .";. .. VIA "I would say yes. Just cuz I . Phil Murphy of Orem's Department of Public Safety gazes up from his desk at a shadow box of his grandfather's grandfa-ther's gun, badge and other police memorabilia. It's the one link between his family heritage and his chosen profession as a law enforcement enforce-ment officer. Murphy, 43, who grew up in Provo, nearly took another career path. Initially f ollowing in the footsteps of his father, a zoology professor at Brigham Young University, "Murphy attended BYU and began enrolling en-rolling in biology and zoology courses. "I like research, working with animals, but I'm not very left brain," he said. Rather than burying his head in an algebra or chemistry textbook, Murphy Mur-phy preferred problem solving solv-ing and communicating with people. He soon transferred to "Utah Valley State College, began taking sociology and psychology psychol-ogy classes and went on ride-alongs ride-alongs with friends who were officers with the Orem police department. "The minute I did, 1 was hooked," Murphy said. "I was supposed to be a veterinarian but ended up being a cop." The post meets twice monthly for interactive experiences with a variety of healthcare specialists special-ists at the hospital. "It has been gratifying to see young people explore career options in this setting. 1 know a number of past Medical Explorers who are working in healthcare today as a result of their experience ex-perience with the post," said Kelly Dick, audiologist and post chair. Cost for joining the post is $41.25, which includes a set of hospital scrubs. The cost for returning return-ing explorers who have a set of scrubs is $20.
