It was to have been Wednesday evening in the school's auditorium. Two individuals received spotlight tributes during the program. They were Coach Don Overly and Ardena Beck. Overly was the first to coach a State Championship at American Ameri-can Fork and he also served as principal at the school. Beck was advisor to the Pep Club and was a counselor and teacher at the school. Overly still lives in American Fork with his wife, Thelma. "I have been here long enough to be called a native," he said. He was born and raised in Provo and graduated from Provo High School, where he played basketball, baseball and tennis. After two years he went to BYU where he played basketball for three years. He was all conference in 1940 and served as captain in '40 and '41. He graduated in 1941. "I came to American Fork in 1941 to coach basketball, baseball base-ball and tennis," he said. "There were only two of us coaching. 1 helped him in football and he helped me in basketball." "We won the first state championship cham-pionship in 1950. We were second sec-ond in '45, '46, '47, '49, '53 and '54 and third in 1951." He remembers when the bleachers for the school were trucked in from Jackson, Miss. AMERICAN FORK American Fork seniors are planning their annual Fall Foliage Foli-age trip on Sept. 29. Cost is S35. The trip will include Sardine Canyon, Cox Honey, Gossnor Cheese, Logan Canyon, Bear Lake, Evanston Canyon, Provo Canyon and lunch at Maddox. Registration is being taken at the center, 54 E. Main St. The American Fork Senior Center is usually open weekdays week-days from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. except ex-cept holidays. Round-trip rides to the center are available for $1. Reservations must be called in to 763-3090 at least 24 hours in advance. The American Fork High School Class of 1945 will hold a class reunion tomorrow at the Alpine Country Club in Highland. High-land. The event will begin at 2 p.m. Class members are asked to R.S.V.P. now by calling Glen Miller at 225-2170. LEHI The Fall Foliage Trip will depart from the Lehi Senior Center on Sept. 24. Seating is limited and reservations can be made at 768-7165. An AARP "Driver Safety Program" Pro-gram" class for those 50 years old and older will be taught at the Lehi Senior Center, 123 N. Center St., Lehi, on Oct. 3 and Oct. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration Reg-istration is being taken at the senior center, 768-7165 or with Lois Chatfield at 225-1758. Fee is $10 per person. Completion of the class may qualify participant for a discount dis-count on automobile insurance. A blood pressure clinic will be also available at the Lehi Senior Center on Sept. 21, from 10:30 until noon. Some girls would come in and leave school so they could get married," said Ardena Beck as she rests in her Provo home. Beck will be honored at American Fork's homecoming this week.
