Local delegates from the Alpine Al-pine Life and Learning Center included in-cluded Kyle Farnsworth and Jacynthia Voorheis. Brad Garrett, Erin Love, Robert McArthur, and AnnaJune Wilson attended from Mountain View High School. The intensive, five-day program pro-gram introduces high school juniors to the engineering profession profes-sion and is sponsored by USU engineering en-gineering alumni, school district foundations, engineering firms, and businesses. Delegates receive $350 scholarships to attend the university-credit program. Students Stu-dents participate in 12 of the more than 232 Challenge Sessions taught during the week. Each student also completes projects within biological, irrigation, irriga-tion, civil, environmental, electrical, electri-cal, computer, mechanical and aerospace engineering, and industrial in-dustrial technology. The new schedule is for all schools on the traditional program and not for year-round schools. "We develop school calendars calen-dars two years ahead of time in order to allow families to plan for vacations ect, "said Board President Presi-dent Guy FugaL According to the adopted schedule, the first day of school will be August 25, 1997. The last day of school will be May 29, 1998. The fair will feature displays of various military and general aviation avia-tion aircraft. In addition, displays of experimental and antique aircraft will be present in cooperation with Chapter 23 of the Experimental Aircraft Association as well as booths and exhibits featuring aviation avia-tion and aeronautical-related items sponsored by other local businesses. Dr. Ron Smart, head of the Aviation Avia-tion Department at UVSC said the fair will give Utah County residents a chance to see some unusual and magnificent aircraft not commonly seen. "This really gives people of the community a look at some spectacular spec-tacular aircraft," said Smart. "Several military units as well as aircraft manufacturers have committed to bring their equipment to Provo for the fair. Anyone who has the slightest interest in aviation shouldn't miss this opportunity." ' The Aviation Fair runs from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Provo Municipal Airport and is free to the public All proceeds will go towards scholarships for the UVSC Aviation Department. For more information, call Dale Lee or Dr. Ron Smart at 222-8-436. A year-end report from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a project co-sponsored by the Alpine Al-pine School District and the Moun-tainland Moun-tainland Association of Governments, Govern-ments, suggests that numerous retires citizens in the area are contributing con-tributing to the success of students in the local school district. Submitting by Coordinator of the Program, Mrs. Sharon Smith, the report states that RSVP finished the year with a total of 5,764 donated hours, from 103 volunteers volun-teers in 24 schools. The volunteers contributed a variety of services, including individual tutoring to assist students with reading or other basic skills, classroom assistance assis-tance for teachers, assistance with administrative duties, and shared teaching duties for those with specialized spe-cialized skills. ' "The common denominator among volunteers," said Smith,"is not what they do, but how they do it. These are simply people who want to make a difference in the lives of students regardless of the contribution, and they do make a difference. I can recount numerous success stories where individual volunteers have greatly influenced the achievement of individual students." stu-dents." According to the report, the Resource Program at Scera Park (Orem) had the most volunteers with 19 who contributed a total of 2,037 hours. Greenwood Elementary Elemen-tary (American Fork) also had a large program with 10 volunteers and a total of 837 hours.
