Fruit Growers Trade Ideas on Tour of County Utah County fruit growers, along with visitors from Salt Lake, Davis, Weber and Box-elder Box-elder counties, traded ideas on the growing of fruit on Saturday Satur-day during the annual tour of the Utah State Horticultural Society. The party included 76 persons and visited at the farms of Joe Carnesecca and Gene Johnson in Mapleton, Glen Pinegar at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon, Can-yon, A. C. Page and A. Z. Robb-ins Robb-ins at Payson.. Orchards in that area will yield fine crops of peaches and apples. John Gillman, Orem, president presid-ent of the Utah State Horticultural Horticul-tural society, was in general charge of the tour. He was assisted ass-isted by Clarence Ashton, state horticulturist. At the Carnesecca farm the group noted an experiment being be-ing conducted on a pear orchard with the use of a nitrogen fertilizer fer-tilizer in the spray. One-half the orchard receives the fertilizer fertil-izer in the spray and seems to be in a htalthier condition than the other half. Four trees on the Gene John son place were exhibits to show the need for the delayed dor mant spray during the green tip stage. Mites on the trees were out of control despite re cent regular sprayings. The clover cover crop at the Pinegar orchard illustrated the value of the crop to retain moisture in the orchard, espec ially on porous types of soli A. C. Page showed how he is training and shaping the young apple trees on his place. Both peach and apples crops on the Robbins orchards in Pay-son Pay-son were in excellent shape with about normal yields expected. Fruit growers agreed that the southern part of the county will have a fair yield of peaches this year and that some will be shipped. ship-ped. They indicate that local peaches will be available for the local market. QUALITY Vitality Our locally hatched Mountainized Chicks ' lay belter!
