Then with a smile on his bright young face He gracefully walked to my bed folding a bunch of fresh violets "All for you, Grandmother," he sal& could not keep the tears from my eye For his act so tender and sweet From a dear little boy not yet eight But it made my day quite complete. Booth i Emma Poulson Feted On 75th Birthday Mrs. Emma Poulson was honored hon-ored at a lovely birthday party on Sunday evening at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Poulson. An owl hooting in the tree Tries his best to scare Me and all the witche Riding through the air. A ghost that wanders through the town Will more than likely be Waiting at the corner to Snatch away with me. Like to loosen up the top-soil So's the taters can grow big, ' Then they'll be plenty of 'em When it comes the time to dig. Kinda seems like I'm crusadm.. The weeds are enemies of mine, Don't want none c' them a sneakin' Up around my tater vine. When the taters all are gathered An' stored safely in the bin Along with all the other crop-pin's crop-pin's An' winter comes a settin' in, I'll have me a roasted tater White an mealy, tasty, too, A little salt an' lots o' butter-Nicest butter-Nicest thing that ever grew. I'll be proud I helped to raise 'em, Kept me busy as can be, You can have the other gardenin' But hoein' taters is for me. time Is progressing everywhere. Varieties Club Enjoys' Joyce Miller Social Evening Members of the Varieties club and their husbands met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mar-low Mar-low Peterson on Friday evening. Table games and visiting were enjoyed and pot luck snacks were served during the evening. Each person brought a, prize and seveal went home with two. Keveals Plans Among the engaged couples who are making wedding plans this fall are Joyce Miller and Julius Zaccardi. Joyce is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Herb-ert A. Miller of Orem and her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oriente Zaccardi of Provo. Joyce is a graduate of the Lincoln high school and attend- e Mr. and Mrs. Chester Graff entertained at an open house in honor of their son, Montel, on Sunday evening. Mr. Zaccardi Orem Jaycees Start Membership Drive A larger membership for the Orem Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce that was the aim set forth by members of the organization organ-ization at their regular dinner and business meeting held last week at Twin Pines. Henry Cam-bell, Cam-bell, Clay Dunn and Lionel Fairbanks Fair-banks were chosen by the group to develop a program to be carried car-ried out during the year designed design-ed to interest new members in the club. The committee will visit new and prospective members mem-bers in their homes and explain he aims of the club to both husbands hus-bands and wives in an effort to increase the activity of those joining the club. Howard Hall. Ted Voelker and Glen Healy, members of the better government committee reported re-ported on the activities of the newly organized Orem Voters party. Grant Young, Jaycee president, presid-ent, conducted the meeting. The Varieties ladies are planning plan-ning to make a print block quilt in the near future. They are coming com-ing to attend the teachers institute instit-ute in Salt Lake City. e Mrs- Walter Holdaway left Tuesday evening for South Gate, California to visit with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Facer and four daughters. e Mrs. Helen Carter was recently re-cently named president of the Sharon PTA. She replaces Mrs. Fern Knight who was elected this spring but felt it necesary to resign. e Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hair have received word of the birth of a grandson, born Tuesday in Salt Lake City to Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Gregory. Mrs- Gregory is the former Maureen Hair. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Gregory of Salt Lake City, fomer residents of Vineyard. e Mrs. Winnie Graff entertained enter-tained members of the Orem stake Relief Society board at her home last week. Mrs. Edna Larsen, who is retiring from the board was honored. Mrs.C. J. Stolworthy gave a tribute to Mrs. Larsen and presented a gift to her. Spencer Grow Business Women Set Organization Rites for Dec. 7 The organizational meeting of the Business and Professional Women of Orem will be held on December 7 at the Orem City Hall, it was announced this week. All ladies interested in Joining Join-ing the organization should contact con-tact Mrs. E. H. Johnson regarding regard-ing the payment of dues. Mrs. Raymond Stewart and infant daughter came home from the Utah Valley hospital on Wednesday. Mrs. T. C. Hebertson and Mrs. Chester Graff accompanied their sons, Montel Graff and Richard Hebertson to Salt Lake City on Monday morning. The two young men entered the LDS mision home. OREM CAMP DUP SETS OPENING MEETING Opening meeting of the season of the Orem Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers "Will be held at the home of Lois Downs on Thursday, October 20, according to Mrs. Ethel Finch, camp captain. The Downs home is on State Street near the City Hall. All women interested in DUP work are invited to attend. Mrs. Hannah Berry of North Carolina, Mrs- Grace Jensen of Fesno, California and Mrs. Hannah Han-nah Brown of Spanish Fork were recent visitors at the home Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hunn. They are cousins of Mrs. Hunn- Grand View DUP Entertained The Grand View Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers were entertained at the home of Mrs- Fontella Buckner. Mrs. Rena Taylor and Mrs. Nettie Brown assisted the hostess. Mrs. Myrlene Clyde gave the lesson "100 Years of the Welsh in Utah". Mrs. Charlotte Davies gave the history of John William Will-iam Young and Mrs. Inez Tracy sang several Welsh songs. Mrs. May Davis and Mrs. Theo Har-ward Har-ward sang a duet. Thomas Biggs and Griffiths Wrench entertained entertain-ed by singing and leading the group in Welsh songs. The Buckner home was attractively attrac-tively decorated with autumn leaves. A door prize was awarded award-ed to Mrs. Nettie Brown. Refreshments Re-freshments were served- Orem Garden Club To Elect Officers Eelction of new officers will be a feature of the meeting and party planned by the Orem Garden Gar-den club for Thursday evening, October 20. The affair will be held in the Windsor ward hall. A good program is being outlined out-lined under the direction of Whit Watts and refreshments will be served. TIMPANOGOS DUU TO MEET THURSDAY Members of the Timpanogos Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers will meet at the home of Edna Larsen on Thursday, October 20 at 2 p.m. Dinner guests at the H. C. Tippetts home on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Morgan May of Delta, Utah; Flora May, Salt Lake City; Mrs- Elton Robb and three children and Mrs. Harrison Harris-on Tippetts and three children of Spanish Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Miller Mil-ler and family have moved into the home formerly owned by Don Rowley.
