If you do, you will meet with oHly the success of a copyist, although you may be copying subconsciously. Nothing pays off like originality. origin-ality. Don't take this to mean wild-cat schemes, crazy ideas with an attempt to be different, but worthwhile, helpful sound measures or ideas that have not been used before. Hy Landerer, of the Brandt Theatres, New York City, teHs a story of being surprised by his supervisor one day with, "Mr. Landerer, starting next week you will be permanent master mas-ter of ceremonies at this theater." He says if he had been hit over the head with a bat he couldn't have been more stunned. Wild thoughts raced through his head as he visualized himself standing stand-ing on a stage introducing celebrities to tw'b thousand people in an audience. In a panicky frame of mind, he asked himself what to do. Should he imitate his predecessor in telling jokes and passing wisecracks to his audience? Yes, that was it That was the answer. So he went out and purchased a joke book. He studied it and then asked himself how he was going to deliver the jokes. Honesty forced him to admit that telling jokes was not a natural talent with him; that truly good performers knew how to fit their jokes to the occasion; that a joke had to be spontaneous or it would appear mechanical, and would not be in the least funny. . So his problem was still to be solved I TrTr Every morning he practiced on himself, and every evening after the theater had closed. He recited poetry to himself, read the Gettysburg Address, tried to master the art of speaking ' before a microphone. But there was still the problem of what : to say before an audience. 1 Then one day he ran into an old friend, a master hand, that well known comedian, Milton Berle, who said, "Hy, there are not two people who can tell a joke the same way and get the same result. Just remember that in your position, your patrons are coming to see the artists you introduce. So go on the stage, tell some interesting fact about '.he performer, announce his : name clearly, and get offt Never attempt to imitate anybody ; be yourself." ; "That evening," says Hy, "I did just that, and I have met with success far greater than I had anticipated. Throughout the years I have carried that advice with me, and it has stood , me in good stead always." Yes, be natural; he yourself; don't copy. to fA i i !'4 0. 1 A 6 ' ' :0. , r.. . ' Mrs. Helen S. In research conducted by en tomologists of the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture, Chlordane shows promise also against carpet beet les, clothes moths and other household insects. But further testing is needed before recommendations recom-mendations are made. Two-percent chlordane sprays with oil or water base, now are for sale in many department, drug and hardware stores under various trade names. When buying, buy-ing, note whether two percent chlordane is among the ingredients ingredi-ents listed on the container. Oil-base sprays are transparent and often slightly strawcolored; water base sprays look milky white. Both evaporate after spraying, leaving an invisible, odorless film on surfaces to kill pests coming in contact with it. The killing power of the film lasts for weeks and even for months. Chlordane should not be used BUILDER C7 7UU HATIOH'S GQGATGG7 TOUCH VALUES ..' MEDIUM-DUTY DE LUXE STAKE i'.odel 3609125V-inch wheelbase, Maximum G.V.W. 5,800 ib. If preferred, it may be applied with a paint brush. In general, use the same precautions as when spraying with DDT or other insecticides. Remove food and utensils in the kitchen be fore spraying cupboards, and re place them only after the spray dries. Wash hands after using. Any oil spray may irritate skin, nostrils or throat, so care should be taken to have the room well ventilated and to aim the spray carefully. Against cockroaches, it is im portant to spray their hiding places, cracks, crannies, under sides of drawers and cupboards. behind or undeneath furniture. Against ants, spray cracks or openings where they enter the house also baseboards, window sills or other surfaces where they crawl. Spraying their nests gives faster results but it may be in the wall or some other place difficult to locate. Ants sometimes come into the house from nests under porches, near house foundations, or ant hills outside. Wheat Quotas May Be Proclaimed The present estimates of supply, sup-ply, utilization, and production of wheat indicate that under the Agriculture Act of 1948, marketing quotas may be proclaimed pro-claimed for the 1950 wheat crop Mr- J. Earl Smoth, Chair, man of the Utah County Agriculture Agri-culture Conservation Association Associa-tion Committee announced this wek. Should it develop that marketing mar-keting quotas are not required, Mr. Smith stated that it still would be probable that allotments allot-ments would be needed in connection con-nection with the price support program. Under present procedure, al lotments will be established for all farms on which wheat was seeded for harvest in any one or more of the years 1947, 1948, or 1949, and such farms will be regarded as "old wheat farms". All other farms will be considered as "new wheat farms", and allotments will not be established for them unless specificaly requested in writing by the producers. Notice is hereby given to all farmers in Utah County who expect ex-pect to plant wheat in 1950 on farms on which wheat was not seeded for harvest in any one or more of the years 1947. 1948, or 1949, that they have until July 1, 1949, to request an allotment. al-lotment.
