Far from breaking the spirit of the people, peo-ple, Nazi cruelty only served to foster a relentless determination to resist the aggressor. The resistance re-sistance movement grew rapidly until, under the leadership of Marshall Tito, the Jugoslavians bad one of the strongest guerrilla guerril-la organizations (300,000) in all Europe, one which held In continuous con-tinuous battle more than forty Axis divisions. In three years of occupation, Jugoslavia lost more than 1.500.000 dead. main. ly as a result of wholesale massacres mas-sacres and reprisals. Olsen, of the merchant marines, somewhere in the Pa- BROTHERS MEET AFTER FOUR YEARS Mr. and Mrs- Jesse Cordner and family of Timpanogos ward are happy to have two of their sons at home after receiving their discbarges trom service. Don F. Cordner, T5 of the army and Blaine Cordner, recently re-cently of the coast guard are visiting e4ch other the first time in four years. Don was sent to Alaska, soon after the war started, spending two and a half years there, then going to the European theater in November, 1944. He was in General Pat-ton's Pat-ton's Third army, where his duties took him .into ten different differ-ent countries. His wife Is the former Peggy Wright . of Salt Lake City, where the couple plan, to live. Blaine received his discharge in September after being in service serv-ice three and rhajf years. He also spent two years in Alaska. His wife, is the former Virginia Richards. A third son of the Gardner's, Calvin. F-2C USN, now sta tioned near Manila, has been in service since, January, 1945. Thursday, November 1, 1945 SERVES ON ' AIRCRAFT CARRIER Alma Larsen, water tender 3C USN, served on -the escort aircraft carrier, "MataniKau", when she steamed into Ominato harbor, on the northern tip of Honshu, main Japanese island, as part of the occupying force. before the area, including the Ominato Naval Base, was taken over, planes from the Matanl kau dropped food and supplies to prisoners in camps in the vicinity. FLIES HOME FROM ALEUTIANS Master Sergeant Earl G. Bart-lett Bart-lett flew home from Attu in the Aleutians on a C-54 plane. He received his honorable release from service at Fort Douglas, Oct. 19, and is now at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. (Wick) Bartlett in Provo San- yon. Earl has completed 4 years and 8 months in service, serving over 30 months in the Aleutians, where he has supervised main tenance of army vehicles. He also was instructor in a military school in automotive mainten ance; set up shops and supervis ed mechanics in all ships and ve hicles and kept maintenance records. He is a graduate of the 1933 class of Lincoln high school RELEASED FROM SERVICE Sgt. Keith V. Kofford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kofford, is home from the army after nearly five years service. He served two years in the Aleutian islands as an air force mechanic and wears the American defense ribbon with one star, the Ameri can and Asiatic-Pacific ribbons and the good conduct medal. Sgt. Clyde Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sumsion of Vineyard, has received bis dis charge from the army after 3 years service. He was in the postal engineering department at Bradley Field, Conn. Warren J. Mitchell, P-lC USN, who has been Stationed at the Marshall Islands, is enjoy ing his leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon MitchelL Lt. Keith Hebertson, son of Major and Mrs. Thorit Hebertson Hebert-son of Salinas, California, who have been here to attend the funeral service of Leland Mad- sen, received a telephone call from itheir eon Sunday, that be had safely arrived In Boston, from Europe and expects to be home soon. Dr. Chas. R. McKell of Pleasant Pleas-ant View has returned home, being honorably discharged from the service. HOME FROM CALCUTTA Lt M. Kelly Gardner, pilot In the air corps, phoned JMs. ; muuier, jura. iua uu uaiuun, J from New York City, oa his ar rival from Calcutta, India. Hel expects to be home within the week. Lt. Gardner has. been hospitalized in China, and Calcutta Cal-cutta for injuries suffered in the crash of his transport plane over the "Hump" June 28. He was at first reported missing In action, and later found by search pa trols. PILOT GOES TO TEXAS Flight Officer Carlyle H. Dawson, husband of Edith Jones Dawson and son of Mr- and Mrs. Carlyle Dawson, has returned to San Angelo, Texas, after a short visit at home. He recently received re-ceived his pilot wings upon com pletion of twin engine advanced training sit Enid. Okla. Mrs. Dawson and their two year old son are living with her parents during his absence. Pfc Kenneth L. Wilkinson of the Marines, son of Mr.nd Mrs. H. L. Wilkinson, has arrived home for a month's furlough. A brother, . Scott Wilkinson, who is employed In Boise .City. Olka- homa is also at the family home, visiting with his brother. Their mother has been seriously 411, but is much Improved. She recently .returned from Garden City, Kansas, where he went because of .her illness, and spent two months.
