The Sprlngville Post of the Home Guard and Minute men held a meeting meet-ing at the City hall, Monday afternoon, after-noon, and made arrangements to give a picnic party at the Reynold's hall. Jan. 13, Committees on program, invitation in-vitation and tables were appointed. A committee was also appointed to prepare a new code of by-laws for the Post. The Independent scribe has the report re-port from reliable sources that Levi Thorpe, the genial section boss on the R. G. W. railway, at Mapleton, had gut into a friendly altercation with the section boss at Lehi, while they were putting down track at Soldier Summit, and was so badly used that he thought it advisable to take a layoff for few das. Miss Kittie Case, of Detroit, Mich., who ha? been visiting Mis Neilson at the Huugerford, accompanied Miss Neilson to her home, at Mt. Pleasant, Thursday. The meeting of the Hungerford Literary and Debuting society which should be held Fiiday night, has been post poricd for one week, ou account ac-count of the absence of pupils and teachers, who are away spending fieir vacation. Mrs. M. P.. A Sunday school party was given eirly in the evening by the Sunday school of the First ward, and after the close of which the seats were cleared out aud dancing engaged in. Christmas was celebrated at the home of George. Huntington this year by the preparation of a beautiful Christmas tree, ami George's little folks and their numerous small boy and girl callers are in eestacies of delight. de-light. He is having n ice house erected back of the building, and is getting things in shape to run an up-to-date shop. Mr. Erdman came here from the state of Michigan, and gives indication of being be-ing a progressive citizen. Springvllle has room for many such. The grand ball giveu at the Reynolds Rey-nolds hall Christmas eve., by the Pleasant Hour Club was a great success, suc-cess, both financially and socially. A hundred and Hfty couple were present and tripped gaily to the soul-stirring music furnished by the S perry orchestra, orches-tra, of Ncphi.
