If ihitj was (lie purposo of its promoters pro-moters from the iirst they have kept it pretty well veiled until recently. Probably three-fourth' of Utah's population are so ui; fortunate for-tunate ('() as t be compelled, In-various In-various little circumstances, to reside without the corporate limits of Salt Lake City, and at points more or less remote from that place. These people are proud of the commonwealth they have built up, and proud of their capital city; but they al-bo al-bo realize that without them this capital city would be deprived de-prived of its principal occupation. occupa-tion. Salt Lake City, of course, is the proper place in which to hold a celebration of this nature, na-ture, for many excellent reasons. reas-ons. The remark is often heard that such ufFairs ' are only money making schemes" for Salt Lake. To a certain extent this is true, mid it i9 not u creditable reflection reflec-tion on the State at large. Hut whose fault is it? The fact should not be lost sight of that this is to be a "Utah Pioneer Jubilee," and not a "Salt Lake Pioneer Jubilee." Utah people expect to attend in large numbers and to bear their just share of the expense attached attach-ed to the event, and they also demand recognition to that extent. ex-tent. An interesting question just at present is whether or not Mr. Milan Packard will build an Opera House this summer. The nuanimous opinion is that he ought to build something, in older to ulilize that hole alongside along-side of Frank Whitniore's new-building. new-building. This city needs an Opera House b'idly enough. It is wearing ou the disposition of the patriotic citizen to be compelled com-pelled to go to Pro vo every time ho wishes to see a good show. Piovo has the best, Opera House south of Suit Like, but it wouldn't take a great deal of money to go her ono better. Let's have an Opera House and Fee a few first class companies here. It seems strange that when talented musicians come to Springville to give a concert theyshould be permitted to give it to almost empty benches, as was the case Saturday night. Prof. Lund is known here as a musician, and the only plausible excuse that can be offered is that the concert was not as well advertised adver-tised as it should have been. If (his concert had been gotten up by a negro minstrel or oilier cheap fakir outfit, and had been advertised by a street parade nothing short of a iraall-pox epidemic would have kept the peop! from ill hi II.
