Fruit Growers Must Do Better In Order to Meet Competition. "One who is interested" says in the Iirlghaiu Rugler: For many years our people have had an unlimited market for all their berries and fruits, but that time is past. The northern market, liutte, Anaconda and other Montana towns, is now suppli-d from other points. The California berries have been in the liutte and Anaconda market since the first of the month, until now they are almost, a drug in the market. We have had a limited market in the east but this year onr Colorado friends are nearly, if not quite able to supply themselves, leaving us only a limited market in Wyoming. About the time our berries come in, the Oregon and Washh gt m growers will be in hot conipctiuu with us, they having an immense crop this year: said to almost triple any previous crop. So it will be only by strict attention to business that we will be able to market our berries. It has been the habit of our growers grow-ers to have pickers paying them so much per case, paying very little attention to the state of the berries when picked. Now the pickers' business busi-ness is to pick as many casses as possible. pos-sible. Some of them pay little or no attention as to the state of the berries; in many cases a great portion of them is too green, another portion too ripe, very few of them being fit for market, thus greatly injuring our market. It has happened when we have bad standing orders for the season, they have been canceled often by one or two shipments of berries thus picked and sent out. This method of picking pick-ing without strict, watching on the part of the grower is not only greatly to the injury of the shipper but also to the growers themselves. home of our growers make great haste to pick the first hemes; picking them very green and unfit for use, thinking their berries will be the first in the market and will bring a big price. While the fact is the market has beeji abundantly supplied from other points for a month before ours come in, and the people are not anxious to buy iuferiar goods. If our people want to sell their fruit of all kinds more strict attention must be paid to the picking of the same. There should be a uniformity both as to quality and size of fruit packed in each box. Often we see very fine large fruit of all kinds placed in a case by the side of very small and inferior in-ferior fruit. This will not do, for if we expect to sell our fruit we must take the same pains to please as others, or we will be left out in the cold and finally find ourselves without with-out a market. In picking our fruit, peaches for instance, how nice it looks to see a case packed nice and even, all about the same size and evenly ripened. This is what takes with the people who buy the Jyiit. Put in many instances in-stances where fruit is packed, a tine large, ripe peach and a small green one are put side by side in the same case; this injures the sale thereof. Many of our competitors have great advantage of us i.i shorter hauls and they are strictly up to business and take great care to see that the fruit is properly packed and graded. If we expect to sell our fruit we must see to it that we are not behind in any particular. Peculiar Accident at Parson. A very peculiar incident happened on Main street Tuesday afternoon. Paul Gosser was riding a fractious horse which began to rear and plunge in front of AVimmer k Co's. store. Floyd Wilson was driving along in the Co-op delivery wagon and the animal reared ur and fell over into the bed of the vehicle. Gosser was thrown completely over the wagon and landed in the street on the other side uninjured. The rig had to be taken to the blacksmith shop for repairs. Payson Globe. Memorial Day Exercises. Last Monday the Indian war veterans veter-ans and friends held their Memorial day exercises at the City hall, as announced an-nounced in last week's paper. The hall was well filled and represented most all the people in some capacity or other. A beautiful procession was formed at the close of the services, headed by Clegg's band, then the Indian veterans, citizens and children. At the ceruetary appropriate exercises were had and the graves of departed comrades, dear relatives and friends were decorated. It should be made a matter of public knowledge that De Witt's Witch Hazel Salve will speedily cure piles of the longest standing. It is the household favorite for burns, scalds, cuts, bruises and sores of all kinds. Parents are warned not to permit their children to eat the locust blossoms that are now so plentiful in this vicinity. The blossoms are pretty to the eye, delicious to the smell, sweet to the taste, but poisonous to the stomach. Just last week the six or seven year old son of James Young of Three mile Creek came nearly dying from the evil effects of eating too many of these tempting blossoms. The lad swelled up as though he had been foundered. We are told that only the prompt working of an emetic saved the boy's life. The parents trace the cause direct to t he locust blossoms.
