A large delegation of Springville people, left on the morning train Thursday for Salt Lake, where i hey will help to swell the crowd at the metropolis during the Carnival. 'Roman to Packard died Wednesday night at 10:30 p. m., after an illness of about two weeks. The cause of death was malarial typhoid fever. The deceased-was fifty years old. i Mrs. Kate Miller Thompson of Clrcleville, arrived In town Saturday. She intends to visit with her mother. Mrs. Miller, for two .or three months. Her husband, Mr. Brose Thompson, Is building a fine residence on his ranch in Clrclevillc. Samuel Cornaby, a notary, and Geo. D. Snell, Jr., bth of Spanish Fork, were In town on business, Wednesday. Mr. Snell is now cashier of the Spanish Fork bank, in which position he succeeds suc-ceeds Mr. Geo. Gilbert. The latter gentleman returned to his home in Wisconsin, Wednesday. Burn Mendenhall, son of Tom Mendenhall, was the vlctom of a painfull pain-full accident Wednesday. He was standing by the side of a stack when a fork slipped from the top of it, striking him on the leg just above the knee, going entirely through 1t. The wound was serious enough to require the services of a physician. Phil Tuckett told the scribe a story Illustrating the fertility of Utah's soil. He said that he dug up a plat of ground, and raked it over twice and that next morning when he went out to look at it he found that there were flowers on it two feet high and all in bloom. Tliil says talk about California Cali-fornia for -climate and soil; that State Is not in It with Utah. He also stated that Joe Whitehead and Harry Web would vonch for the truthfulness of this story. Wednesday evening, Dan Jones, an old man who works up at Castilla Springs, was brought down to Dr. Smart to have his arm, which was dislocated In the shoulder, put back in position. The doctor placed the old geutleman under Chloroform and soon had the arm In place. Tbe old man went off rejoicing. It seems that this dislocation business is an ordinary occurance with the old gentleman and suplies him with amusement when all else fails. It is a good country that we live In, and a great one. We are going to keep it such, no ruatUr who is elected. The present duty Is' to take all the vacation and all the " days off" you can get, and enjoy them all to the top of your bent. Dress lightly.
