An Independent Reporter, After, An Exciting Chase, Finally ; Runs to Earth the Rumor That Mr. T. R. Kelly Had Bean tho Victim of Foul Play. Graphic Story of the Affair. Late last Tuesday evening this city was thrown Into astateof mildexcite-wc-ut by the report that Mr. T. R. Xellr, a rising and much respected .young pedagogue, the leader of the Silver Cornet Bund and an all round good fellow, had mysteriously disappeared disap-peared at about the hour of 9:30. An investigation was at ouce ordered, but owing to the latcuess of the hour little could be done. A friend of Mr. Kelly, however, stated that in his opinion that' gentleman was safe in the arms of Morpheus. Just who Mr. Morpheus was,' or that individual's relationship to Mr. Kelly, was not kuowu, but the authorities determined determ-ined to wait for daylight, aad in the .meantime hope for the best. On Wednesday morning, the dismal xumors continuing, the authorities determined to conduct a full and complete com-plete investigation aud locate Mr. Kelly, if possible. The Independent -at ouce detailed a reporter to assUt in the search. Iu the course of a few .hours the reporter's indefatigable labors resulted in the discovery that Mr. Kelly was not-, had not-, and in all probability would not-, be missing. The mystery was solved, and soon a feeling of confidence returned, and settled down upon the commuuity like a cloud of adobe dust upon a new spring suit. The reporter sent in his bulletins from time to time during the progress of the search. Reports from the scene of operations read about as follows: 7 o'clock a. rjl.--.An excited citizen from th'i north end of Main street has just appeared and asserts that at the hour of 11 the previous evening he bad ceu Mr. Kelly being hurried toward Provo by half a dozen people. Another Main street citiien says he is sure he heard Mr. Kelly call for help at a late hour yesterday yes-terday evening. Went and got a pint bottle full, but on his return could find no trace of Mr. Kelly. Poor Kelly! 7:25 a. m. The mystery deepens. JNo new rumor has been heard for fully 15 minutes. MaJ. R. Taylor Marshall with a force of picked men have gane to search the mill pond. 7:30 a. ra. A telephone message has iust been recelvod from County Clerk ones of Provo, saying that the prepossessing pre-possessing young man who pplled for a marriage license late last evening was not Mr. Kelly. Party's name was Smith and he hailed frotnGosheu. Provo marshal Is vigilant. 7:40 a. ui. A green looking lad from the rural districts reports that he saw a battered Fedora hat. a bloody axe and evidences of a struggle a mile or two out toward Provo on the line of the Union Pacific. Marshal Storrs has mounted his wheel and gone to Investigate. Can it be that Mr. Kelly has been murdered? 7:45 a. m. Druggist Petenon Is preparing lint and bandages and brewing brew-ing amic. The utmost excitement prevails. 7:50 a ra. Mayor Deal and Alec Robertson are organizing a posse to hunt for Mr. Kelly. The Republican County Convention met in the City hall, yesterday. An organization was effected with Geo. D. Snell of Spanish Fork us chairman, Mrs. F. E Stewart of Pleasant Grove, as vice chairman, and Geo. D. Gee, of Provo, as 2nd vice chairman. Mrs. Bessie Craggan of Provo was chosen permanent secretary, with John O. Johnson of Sautaquin and Mrs. Ray Robertson as assistants. Myron Tanner was made chaplaiu and David Crandall serjeant at arms. The convention then proceeded to elect the 64 delegates to which Utah County is entitled. Springville is to be represented at the State convention conven-tion In Salt Lake by Messrs. F. 0. Boyer, liichard Thorn, Geo. Mackenzie, Macken-zie, Jas. B. Whitehead, F. M. Snell, Mrs. Kate Dougall, M. Packard and Mrs. LydiaM. Johnson. The alternates are Messrs. Nephl Straw, James Strang and Mrs. S A. Boyer. The Silver Coruct Band and the Republican Drum Corps of this city discoursed music for theoccasiou. John Howe was a member of the Benlamln delegation, and Quet Johnson's John-son's beaming countenance lighted up the Spanish Fork contingent. Messrs. Austin and Granger were both members of the Lent delegation. The culprit who raised the flag over the City hall, plead for leniency, as It is his first offence, and he promises that it will be the last. II. M. Dougall was in his usual Jocular Joc-ular humor.
