News From all Parts of the World. Phoenix convicted being out The Democrats of Missouri are figuring fig-uring on a silver convention. (). Dunhar, editor of the (Arizona) Gazette has been of criminal libel, the jury but twenty minutes. The Minnesota Supreme court has granted a thirty days stay of execution execu-tion in the case Harry Haywood, who was convicted of Murdering Margaret Cing. Grasshoppers have appeared in such quantities in Nebraska as to cover the Uurlington railroad track and cause much trouble. At Yuma, Colo., they have invaded the grain lields, doing much damage. Ex-Governor Horace Boies of Iowa who is spoken of as being in the race for the presidential nomination on the Democratic ticket has written a vigorous letter declaring for free coinage, coin-age, independently of the action or attitude at-titude of other nations. The Iowa State Prohibition convention con-vention met at Des Moines Wednes days and nominated a full State ticket with Frank Bacon for Governor. The resolutions declare for woman suff- ship of railroads and for the income tax. THE LEAGUE CLUBS- The silver republicans are making a hard fight at the league convention at Cleveland, Ohio, for free coinage, but it is feared they will be unsuccessful unsuc-cessful and that that resolution ad opted at Denver will be again offered as sop to the West. Col. Trumbo, of Salt Lake, presented present-ed a silver memorial to the convention conven-tion in which the following occurs: "We are not here as Western men nor as the representatives of silver producing States. We come before you as citizens of a common country, no part of which can be artificially built up without injury to the balance. bal-ance. In demanding the insertion of a resolution which recognizes the necessity ne-cessity of the free and unlimited coinage coin-age of silver at a ratio of 16 to 1, you must believe that our motives are patriotic rather than selfish " In the event of the silver men being defeated several delegates have declared de-clared they will bolt the convention. McAlpine, of New York, will probably prob-ably be elected president. Matthew McEwtn Suioides. Goldendale, Wash., June 19. Matthew McEwen, a wealthy and respected re-spected farmer, shot and killed himself him-self with a Winchester rifle this morning, at his farm three miles south of Goldendale. He committed the deed in his bed-chaiuber this morning while his wife was cooking breakfast, the bullet passing through his heart. He says our people in Utah do not realize the vastly better condition of this country over that of the Southern States and also many of the Eastern States. Regarding the treatment of Utah missionaries, Mr. Evan-says they are treated hospitably by the people who formerly were so bitter, and that a better wave of feeling seems to be spreading throughout the country.
