It didnt stop Park City soccer this week either. The Miners defeated Snow Canyon 3-0 Friday in a heavy thunderstorm, and handed Cedar City a 5-0 loss Saturday, after spending an hour clearing snow off the field. "The weekend went well," said Park City coach Mike Guetschow, "1 was impressed with the play of the play of the forwards and the midfield." Against Snow Canyon, the Miners got on the board early with a goal by Andrew McCutcheon, and dominated a rainy second half, scoring twice more. Brian O'Keefe and Will LoPatreillo added goals in the second, both assisted by Dave Islieb. Saturday, Park City went 40 miles north and 1500 feet up in elevation ele-vation to face the Redmen of Cedar City, a trip that took them from rain to snow. "We were going up the canyon and we saw the snow line, which Cedar City was above," said Guetschow, "so the game was delayed an hour while we shoveled snow and rolled snowballs to clear the field." The Redmen played in the 3A Championship game last year, losing los-ing to Ogden, but 10 of 11 starters from last year's squad graduated, leaving Cedar City to rebuild this year. The Miners took advantage, lighting up the Redmen for five goals, two players scored twice. Mark Thimm opened the scoring for Park City in the first half, with an assist from Brian O'Keefe, who added two more goals before half- time. Islieb put the game out of reach for the Redmen with two quick scores at the start of the second half. "It was a good chahe to get a look at the junior varsity guys in a varsity setting," Guetschow said of the Cedar game. "We got a lot of guys some time." Junior keeper Ben Stollerman was in goal for both shutouts. The J.V. team also won both of itls games, defeating Snow Canyon 5-1, 5-1, and getting shutout at Cedar City. Park City gets to play a little closer to home this week, though just a little, the Miners field is still snow covered. Thursday, Park City will meet the Delta Rabbits at the West Jordan soccer complex on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. Saturday the Miners play Pine View at Waterford in Sandy.
