The concert will feature Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Fawn; Dukas Symphony In C Major, and Roussel's Bacchus et Ariane. Bom in Los Angeles in 1941 to Romanian parents, Foster wanted to become a conductor from a young age. Guided by such celebrated musicians as Bruno Walter, he made his professional debut at the age of 16 with a newly formed orchestra of young musicians in Los Angeles. During this period, Foster served dual roles, as both music director of the group, and conductor of the San Francisco Ballet, a post he held until 1965. Foster spent the years between 1965-1968 as the assistant conductor with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. In January of 1969, he was named chief guest conductor of the Royal . Philharmonic Orchestra, becoming one of the youngest musicians ever to hold such an important position with a major London ensemble. Successor to Sir John Barbirolli and Andre Previn, Foster remained with the Royal Philharmonic for five years. In 1972, Foster returned to the United States to serve as music director of the Houston Symphony until 1978. Currently, Foster serves as the music director of the Aspen Music Festival and School, a position he has held since October of 1990. He also serves as music director of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic, a post he has held since 1979, and will leave at the end of the 1993-94 season. (If - ';. V ' il 1 . F 4-. 1 1 I ' JT ....
