Show peer Valley prepares for summer Park City News Thursday, April 7, 1983 Pag e Ail 1 by Nan Chalat Deer Valley Resort will be Iclosing to skiers on April 10 but after a short respite will (DC gccuuig again ior summer. Throughout the summer, the Huggery and the Mariposa restaurants will continue to cater to the gourmet palates in town. There are tennis courts and hiking trails on the planning boards and the University of Utah Division of Continuing Education will be conducting several workshops on the mountain. Deer Valley is planning to build two tennis courts near the Snow Park base lodge and two additional courts at Silver Lake. They should be ready for play by late summer. sum-mer. The two lower courts will be located next to the Fawngrove and Lakeside Developments and work on them will coincide with major relandscaping of the area around the lake. The property is currently zoned as recreational open space and this summer's landscaping plans include a volleyball area, a covered picnic gazebo and pedestrian hiking trails. There is also a proposed trailhead at Silver Lake, and Deer Valley tentatively ten-tatively plans to open stables Commercial approved for D.V. building By a unanimous vote March 30, the Park City Planning Commission voted to add limited retail space to the Deer Valley entrance building. The previous week, the idea was voted down, 5-2, by the commission,, but after that vote, Deer Valley Executive Ex-ecutive Vice President John Miiller suggested the entrance en-trance building could trade its commercial from another planned site in the project. In this way, the planners would not be adding new commercial commer-cial space to the development. develop-ment. The new plan took 3,100 square "feet $ Commercial that had been slated for a sports facility and placed it in the entrance building. The sports building is to be built on the north end of the Snow Park parking lot. In a separate vote, the five attending at-tending commissioners also unanimously approved the transfer of square footage. On March 23, Commissioner Commis-sioner Burnis Watts objected that the new commercial would bring a mail situation to the building. But senior planner John Eskelin told the Newspaper that 3,100 square feet was not a large area. Originally, said Eskelin, the building's conditional use permit called for office space that would be leased, and a laundry connected with building use. The planning staff attached at-tached several stipulations to the approval. All commercial com-mercial use, they said, should be oriented to the interior of the building, should be complementary to the check-in facility and be designed solely for the resort community. Retail sales would also not be located on the entry-way (west) side of the building. in the near future. Modern dance, photography and physical fitness workshops are scheduled to be held at Deer Valley through the University Univer-sity of Utah's Division of Continuing Education. On June n and 12 Deer Valley will host the Vaughn Angell Memorial Stage Race, one of the most competitive bicycling races in the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain area. And on July 9 the Pepsi 10 Kilometer Footrace will be held in Deer Valley also. The Huggery, which has been booked to maximum capacity almost all winter will be taking a well-earned break after tonight's seafood buffet. The restaurant will resume the weekly buffets on Thursday, May 12. Sunday Sun-day brunches will pick up again on May 8 and luncheons lunch-eons will be served again beginning May 9 through the fall. From the closing of the resort until June 5, the Mariposa will be open Tuesday through Saturday. After June 5 the Mariposa will be open seven nights a week. Reservations are strongly suggested and may be made by calling the Mariposa (649-1005) or the Huggery (649-1007). While everyone else is immersed in summer, Deer Valley engineers will be busy making small run additions ad-ditions in the Sterling lift access ac-cess area. The changes will help to reroute some of the traffic on the Bird's Eye run. Iff TTjJII M . pilMWIHIJIl i HI I WPH III! HHf K V" " I 0 - y J " , ' ' , I: - :- -A- v--A y . ' I V, . . V """" ' , .
