Show Mormon Church dedication Park rilv News Thursday, February 17, 1983 Page A7 Seven hundred attend ceremonies The dedication of the new Mormon Church at Monitor and Lucky John Drives was held last Sunday with Elder Marvin Ashton of the church's Council of the Twelve as featured speaker. Despite some sporadic snow-storms snow-storms throughout the day, over 700 people showed up for the services. Elder Ashton one of the Mormon church's top-ranking officials and a figure noted for his work with the youth of the church gave the dedicatory address and prayer. He expressed hope that "this building will be a missionary tool." Ashton had much praise for the Park City area, saying he thinks that the opportunities of doing the church's work here are unlimited. The new church will serve the first and second wards of the church's Park City operations. Mormons living in the Snyderville and Summit Sum-mit Park area will continue to use the ward building on Kilby Road, just off 1-80. For the past few months, while the new church in Park City was being constructed, the first and second wards were meeting in the Snyderville Snyder-ville ward building. Groundbreaking ceremonies cere-monies for the new facility were held on Nov. 28, 1981. Most of the construction was completed by the end of 1982. In the past few weeks church officials and building contractors con-tractors conducted final inspections in preparation for last Sunday's big unveiling. unveil-ing. All the work on the building is now completed, with the exception of landscaping land-scaping which will be finished fin-ished when the weather breaks this spring. Other speakers at Sunday's Sun-day's ceremonies which included in-cluded a sacrament meeting included Bishop L. Roy Tatton of the Park City second ward; W. Also speaking during the ceremonies was Elder Jeffrey Jeff-rey R. Holland, president of Brighara Young University. Holland said that the dedication dedica-tion of the church had a special meaning in his life. He explained that 73 years ago, about a mile from where the new church stands, Holland's father had been born to a non-Mormon family. Shortly thereafter, his grandfather died thereby leaving a 22-year-old wife with two very small children and nowhere to go.
