Show The Newspaper Thursday, July 9, 1981 Page A3 Letters it ifa& IEdliitp f Bond election Editor: The name of Martin and Pam Polychronis was erroneously added to the list of those supporting the bond for the field house. Committee in Support of the Fieldhouse Use your own money Editor: The Mayor receives $650-month salary and $l00-month income-tax free "expense" money. Councilmen receive $125-month salary and $100-month $100-month income-tax free "expense" money. The City Manager receives $300-month income-tax free expense money. Yet they spend our tax dollars from the General Fund instead of their "expense" money to pay for their mileage, meals and lodging for their retreats to Snowbird, their justification being that they need peace and quiet to meditate the lousy decisions they have been dealing to the citizenry (the expensive, ill-advised ill-advised bond election, etc.). It amazed me that Councilman Helen Alvarez, speaking on the KPCW panel the night before the bond election, pumped mightily for the arena because of the sales tax dollars we would collect from the tourism it would generrte. Yet she and the others are taking our own tax dollars out of town to give to Snowbird. If our honorable administrators need peace and quiet, they have the full use of the Marsac School, which is totally empty every Saturday and Sunday. They could even condescend to use the Memorial Bidg., which they lusted to acquire. They could then sleep in their own beds and pay for their own meals. Otherwise, they should use the tax-free expense money they are receiving if they want to pamper themselves on luxury weekend jaunts. Sincerely, Jerry & Craig "Bread n' Butter" School Board should stay away from this one Editor: The proposal to the School Board by Mr. Wells raises some interesting questions: 1. If the Deer Valley Master Plan calls for a School Site and that site is already dedicated to school use, isn't Deer Valley giving away something it no longer controls? 2. If that site, plus the employee housing site, are rezoned, aren't the developers being allowed to rewrite the Master Plan? 3. If the employee housing site is rezoned to luxury condos, where will those employees find housing? 4. Can the School Board ethically convert some of its Park Meadows property to a windfall profit-producing situation for two well-known developers? 5. If the school site in Deer Valley is too small, how did the Master Plan win approval in the first place? 6. Does the School Board. wish us to believe that it is just now realizing the impact of the Redevelopment Agency? The School Board approved of the Agency when it was formed. "Let's Make a (Land) Deal" sounds like more of the same old wheeling and dealing to me. I think the School Board should back away from this one. Dear Editor: A wave of lunacy seems to be sweeping through the City, County and State officials of Utah this summer. The first symptoms appeared ap-peared when the Park City Council drafted and supported the latest bond issues, but enough has been said about that fiasco. More recently the same City Council has informed us that they have no intention of selling out the residents of Prospector Park to a mining company for a mere 80-20 split of the profits. If you want to buy our City Council, it's 50-50 or nothing. The City Council just doesn't listen to the voters. They still feel that the good of the City Council comes before the good of the citizens of the city. The disease begins to spread to nearly straight jacket proportion when the Summit County Commission tells us that because we've all been bad little boys and girls, no alcohol will be allowed at the outdoor concerts in Park West. To show us that they're not all bad, they are allowing more toilets. Unfortunately, with no one drinking beer, the need for those extra toilets will be eliminated. A beautiful setting, a hot sun, good knee slapping country music and a nice cold Tab. Oh well, we don't have to fear this week. Our City Council has come to the rescue and approved beer permits for the Main Street Merchants on July 4th (I wonder if they're getting a 50-50 split). So, we can all get drunk downtown and have fights and traffic accidents on the way TO the concert instead of on the way FROM the concert. But the "Supreme Wacko - Throw Away The Key" Award has to go the the Utah State Legislature in banning the sale of drug paraphernalia in an effort to curb drug use in the state. This logic had me a little confused until I heard that next week the State Legislature intends to put an end, once and for all, to the problem of gun control - by banning the sale of holsters.
