Such may have been the case Saturday at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City when the Park City Muckers coasted to an 18-10 win over the Griffins in Beehive Rugby Union play. The win left the Muckers with a 4-0-1 record for the season. They now have a week off to prepare for their July 4 match with long-time rival, the Dead Goat Touring Scott Thompson finds some running room side. That game will be at rights and the Muckers were the City Park, beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, the Muckers out-finessed their Salt Lake City opponent in the first-half first-half while running up a commanding, 15-0 lead. Rick Phaler began Park City's scoring onslaught early in the game, scoring a try after taking a loose ball, following a scrum, through the left side of the Griffins' defense. Bruce Reid's conversion con-version kick split the up on top, 6-0. Minutes later, the Griffins had an opportunity to score, but an attempt on a penalty kick hit the left up-right and fell wide. But a penalty kick from a short distance was no problem prob-lem for Reid moments later and Park City was on top, 9-0. Following Reid's penalty kick, Park City kept the Griffins at bay, controlling the ball deep in the Griffins' own territory throughout the Century 21 Park City Properties is Proud to Present . - ' , if AT DEER VALLEY 50 Luxury Condominium Units Located at the Entrance of this Beautiful New Ski Resort EXTERIOR Rock& Wood Exteriors Private Patios All Downhill Units have Two Car Garages with Automatic Garage Door Openers Cedar Shingle Roofs Double-Pane Wooden Windows All Uphill Units have Two Car Garages with Automatic Garage Door Openers and Covered Double Carports for Two Cars ALL ST0NEBRIDGE UNITS FEATURE: INTERIOR: Fireplaces Tub with Whirlpool Bath in all Master Bedrooms High Quality Oak Kitchen Cabinets Disposal Jenn-Air RangeOven Refrigerator with Icemaker Microwave Oven Automatic Fire Sprinkler System Washer & Dryer Hookups Forced-Air Gas Heating Dishwasher Sound-Conditioned Walls for Ultimate Privacy Prewired for Cable T.V. The Muckers scored once more before the half on a set play described by one Mucker Muck-er as "Give the ball to Bill (Hart)." That was pretty much what was done as Hart dragged three opponents on his shoulders ten yards for the try. Again, Reid's conversion con-version was successful and Park City led, 15-0. But less than a minute following his heroics, Hart needed assistance leaving the field with a severely sprained and swollen ankle. His availability for the Dead Goat match is still to be determined. After handling the Griffins easily the first half, Park City came out uninspired after the intermission, going through the motions while allowing the Griffins to score twice. "Basically, we were just mouthing off and quit paying attention," was how Mucker Captain Rick Phaler described des-cribed the second-half play of Park City. "They were so far behind, they started to just bitch and we paid attention to that." Though the Griffins scored two tries in the second half, Park City still maintained control of the contest. The Griffins found themselves with their backs to the wall most of the half, as in the i first. If not for a break on a loose ball kicked into the Park City end zone by a Mucker trying to clear the ball out of bounds, and an intercepted pass by a Griffin with nothing but green grass in front of him, the Griffins wouldn't have scored. Park City's lone second-half second-half score came early in the half when Scott Thompson booted a drop goal from 20 yards out. "We were pretty much in control the whole game," Phalef said afterwards. "Anytime we needed the ball, we would get it. It was just that nobody wants to kill someone when the outcome isn't in doubt. Plus, the heat affected us some. We couldn't keep up the pressure pres-sure for 80 minutes under those conditions." Phaler also credited the teams' upcoming game with the Dead Goat for having some affect on the Muckers' play Saturday. "I think some of the guys might be looking ahead to the next game. That's always al-ways a big one. We've been rivals ever since the Dead Goat broke away from our club." Softball standings WOMEN'S LEAGUE Team Won Lost Pet.
