WILL N Why is it that so many dieters shed excess poundage pound-age only to gain much of the weight right back? Overweight Americans just don't know how to modify the behavior that leads to overeating, according accord-ing to Susan Mendenhall, registered dietician at the Utah Heart Association. Utah Heart is again sponsoring spon-soring a series of behavior modification courses for weight control that begin October Octo-ber 9. The program has proved not only popular, but also highly successful. One thousand people have participated in the classes and the average weight loss of all who complete the program is 15 pounds. "Most dieters return to former eating patterns and . associations," says Ms. Mendenhall. "For example, food is commonly associated with social events. Some people eat while they do chores; others while they are at work. Associations that promote unconscious eating can be broken with behavior modification." Eliminating those unecessary food associations is one of the techniques used in the Heart Association's weight control program, according ac-cording to the nutritionist. Each of the classes meeting this quarter will last 10 weeks. Classes are limited to 25 persons, men or women. There is a $40 registration fee, of which $10 is rebated for regular attendance. Another $10 is refunded if the participant loses 15 pounds or reaches his or her ideal weight. The class is a tax-deductible tax-deductible contribution to the Utah Heart Association. You may register at the Heart Association or by attending at-tending the first class. Call 322-5601 for more information. infor-mation. Classes will be held at Lehi Junior High (152 North Center) Cen-ter) on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. starting October 10; at the Public Health Clinic in Nephi on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. starting October 16; at Wasatch Junior High in Heber on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. starting October 10. 1 JN I Gourmet Coffee & Teas espresso & cappuccino Greek pocket pita sandwiches fresh roasted coffee bean varieties bulk tea & tea things coffee makers & acessories accessories espresso & cappuccino pots fresh carrot cakes oatmeal cookies Park City Resort 2336 E70th So S.L.C.8121 943-2105- 649-9791 BIRTHDAY STARS Oct. 12 Don Schumacher Heather Circo Oct. 13 Martha Jensen Oct. 15 Jennifer Sharp Craig Stevens Bob Whitfield Oct. 18 Kim Weaver Oct. 14 Gene Moser Oct. 17 Pam O'Dell Barbara Barry to Have a friend or relative you would like to see congratulated in the birthday column? Main, Heher, Utah 654-3032 More Water The city currently is preparing pre-paring an agreement with Park City Ventures for the trade of water rights that would substantially add to the town's existing supply. City Councilman Richard Martinez commented at last Thursday's meeting that the mining company owns three springs west of the Thaynes Canyon 4 subdivision. They apparently are willing to trade the rights for one water connection to a house formerly occupied by a mining executive. On Tuesday, City Manager Wayne Matthews said the water would be filtered and pumped via the Theriot Spring to the city reservoir. At the rate of approximately approximate-ly 1,800 gallons per hour, Matthews commented, "This will be quite an addition to the city system to have that much more water available." Martinez said the trade offer is not one to pass up since, "That water probably will never run out. I've been with the mine 25 years and it's been pumping all that time!" The City Council unanimously unan-imously agreed to the proposal, pro-posal, and Martinez will work out the final details.
