Larry Case, 23, Costa Mesa, was arrested October 6 by four Park City policemen for breaking the windshield of a car parked in the lot of the Sweetwater Lift Lodge on Empire Avenue. The officers were dispatched to the hotel when employees heard the sound of breaking glass. A description of the getaway vehicle was given, and Case was apprehended and his car impounded. The following day, one officer happened to mention the case of Case, including the wide variety of goods impounded with his car, to Summit County police officer of-ficer Fred Eley. Eley had previously taken a theft report from homeowners in Summit Park, and many of the items described in the Park City report matched those stolen from the home. Case was arrested again, having bailed himself out of Coalville jail. He now awaits a hearing on charges of burglary-theft. Park City Justice of the Peace James Kilby set bail at $5,000. Among the many items found in Case's car were ' binoculars, Hectors' watches, a fifth of liquor, a color television, a leather coat, cassette deck and tapes, checkbooks, a microwave micro-wave oven, kerosene lantern, lan-tern, tool and tackle boxes, sleeping bags, clothes and a camera. The items are suspected to be the work of several burglaries. In other police action: More than $300 in damages dam-ages were caused by an exploding firecracker in the backseat of a local car October 5, suspected to have been set off by a jealous young man. James O'Hara of Lucky John Drive told police the exploding M-80 firecracker destroyed stereo speakers, the back window and the back seat of his car. Police indicate the firecracker had been piaced under the speakers by a man jealous over O'Hara's interest in a young lady. The burglary of $150 in cash from the Chicken Out on Park Avenue October 5 was perpetrated by a "class criminal," Park City Chief of Police Mike Crowley said. "Whoever did it is not from Park City," Crowley said. "Park City crimes are usually vandalism messy. This . guy searched the system and covered his tracks." Balanced Diet But Not Budget An audit of Park City School District expenditures shows a well-balanced budget except ex-cept in food services, a department in which Park City's three schools ran $12,000 into the red this year. The audit report, reviewed at the regular school board meeting Tuesday night, comes on the heels of a re-evaluation re-evaluation of the Park City School District. Assessed value of district property this year totals 17 million dollars, some $4 million more than last year before the transfer of South Summit property to Park City. Superintendent Dr. Richard Goodworth reports that next year's evaluation may be as high as $36 million, providing provid-ing a possible opportunity to lower mill levies. In other school board busi ness: The board offered contracts con-tracts to the following: Jana Kutsch; aide at Marsac Elementary; Mary Jane Ruggles, bus driver; Sherry Faulkner, bus driver; Edna M. Atkinson, custodian; Marie A. Abrams, custodian. The district still needs two bus drivers. A progress report on the new elementary school showed contstruction proceeding pro-ceeding 10 days ahead of schedule. The building's foundations are in and half the floor slabs are poured. Authorization for the purchase of an 84-passenger bus was passed by the board. This marks the third bus purchased by the district since school started. Overrated Rep But Still Bad The black widow spider has a reputation .worse than its bite, but keep your distance anyway, suggests the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Regional Poison Control Center. Poison information specialists at University of Utah Medical Center receive a steady stream of calls about black widows each fall when the spiders move indoors in-doors as the nights get cooler. . The spiders prefer dimly lit basements, window wells, stairwells, garages and woodpiles. Disturbing the web of a black' widow spider is usually an invitation to be bitten. The bite two small puncture marks surrounded by redness often produces pain similar to a needle prick. All bites should be cleansed immediately with soap and water. Muscle cramps near the bite may begin anywhere from 2 to 12 hours later, with the cramps progressing to the shoulders, back and abdomen. ab-domen. They're painful and can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, restlessness rest-lessness and sweating. The cramps should be treated by a physician or the symptoms could last four to five days. Occassionally, the spider won't inject its venom when it bites a human. The victim will have only local pain that can be treated with a cold compress and does not require medical attention. The mature female is the more aggressive of the species and is most likely responsible for a bite and resultant muscle cramps. She spins an irregular web and then waits for an insect to become trapped. The female black widow spider usually has a shiny black body a half inch long, but may be dark brown. The abdomen most often has a red-orange hourglass marking, but other spots of coloring may be present. She has a lifespan of up to 18 months. The male is only half to one-fifth the size of the female. He dies a few days after mating. If you are bitten by a black widow spider, check with your physician or call the Poison Control Center at 581-2151 581-2151 or 800-662-4225. mmmmm m w (mam r-Biquor Ban Seen As Threat Continued From Page 1 can see where they don't want, say skiing, to become synonymous with underaged kids drinking on the slopes. It will be interesting to see how Schlitz and Paul Masson wines will handle this in regard to sponsorship of Park City events." Mrs. Peterson said she plans to thoroughly research the possibilities of compromise before the public hearing this month, and will encourage encour-age the participation of other town entities, including the ski resort, the U.S. Ski Team, the convention and visitors bureau and the City Council. "I think it would be ludicrous to say that Mormonism is not behind these proposed amendments to some extent the whole legislation revolves around them in some way," Mrs. Peterson stated. "But they are reasonable people and I think we can work together to have an amendment that reads with flexibility so everyone's every-one's needs are met." Mrs. Peterson encouraged any Parkite interested in appearing at the public hearing to contact the Chamber of Commerce at 649-8899. "I think we would carry more weight as a town if we are all as informed as we can be before we go to that hearing. We at the Chamber would be glad for more support, and to help prepare any interested people or entities before October 24." i Stamp out Postal Problems. BOX NO TELEPHONE The chief said the burglar cut the screen from a window and forced it open, replacing the screen once inside. He apparently searched the takeout chicken restaurant and came to a locked cabinet. He sawed the lock off, and took $150 in bills only, leaving about $50 in coins. "Why would he want the coins?" Crowley pointed out. "How many people walk around with that many coins in their pocket? They're too hard to get rid of." The burglar replaced the lock and left the building through the front door, leaving nothing out of place to be discovered by a passing police officer on patrol. The burglary was discovered dis-covered the next day by Chicken Out owner Steve Bennett. Crowley said they do have a suspect in the incident. Police are investigating a report by two local men that a roommate robbed them of up to $4,000 in $100 bills. Jeff Borde and Larry Rus-sel Rus-sel told police the cash was discovered missing from their Snow Country apartment apart-ment October 6, along with a friend who had been living there with them.
