Show t Thursday, August 30, 1979 Page 9 Cancer Screening Clinic Offered Summit County will be having its annual Cervical Cancer Screening Clinics during the month of September. Septem-ber. Coalville will be the first held on September 10th, followed by Kamas on the 18th and Park City on the 24th. The clinics include services ser-vices such as: KPapanicolaou (Pap) test for cervical cancer 2) Pelvic examinations 3) Breast examinations 4) Blood pressure check 5) Health education information infor-mation Each woman attending the clinic will receive these services. The clinics held in September will be offered to patients free of charge. However, beginning October 1, 1979, there will be a charge for the clinics on a sliding scale basis, according to income. The clinic examinations examina-tions are performed by specially trained nurses. In Utah from November 1976 to March 1979, the Cervical Cancer Screening Program had detected 154 abnormal Paps. Twenty-one of these were cancerous. There were 17 confirmed breast cancers identified, 10,192 breast abnormalities detected and 14,836 pelvic abnormalities. i The cancer program also includes blood pressure screening. The Utah program has detected 18,524 elevated blood pressures; pres-sures; all of which were referred to the State Hypertension Hyper-tension Program. An inter esting discovery in the last two years has been the increase in the number of cancer patients in the younger women, ages 20-29. Specifically, the Mountain Lands area saw 1,087 j patients between November 1 1976 and March 1979. There were 12 abnormal Paps detected (1.1 percent). This is the highest percent of any district in Utah. As stated by the Utah Division of American Cancer Society, one out of every four Utah women is likely to develop cancer. Many deaths can be prevented by early detection, proper diagnosis diag-nosis and appropriate treatment. This is the purpose pur-pose of the Cervical Cancer Screening Program. Cancer of the cervix can be one of the most curable of all cancers, but early detection is essential. 1 The clinics wi,ll be held as follows: !
