Show Page 14 B8THE Wednesday, March 16, 1977 P. B. Hnliftes HI I 1 1 ii Skiing is Great in the Unitas by Tubular Wells RUUIHITf iPlllfill 3 Atop the tube listings in Monday's Tribune was a pieee about the possibility of a "fourth" television network raising its commercial head. A couple things written there caused old Tubular to nearly cough up a mouthful of morning coffee. The first was this word "fourth. "When we in the Wells family count out or list the current air wave empires we begin with P.B.S., then on our no-no fingers we think of ABC, then NBC, and the pinky reminds us of CBS, the sit-eom king. We counted again and again, but kept coming up with the sum total of four. Now I've always been taught that one can't add a fourth jellybean to a bowl of four jellybeans. Must be this newfangled new math. The second thing that kind of shook us up was that the people proposing this new network net-work were advertising agencies. They say there aren't enough eighty thousand dollar, prime time insult minutes to go around! What's wrong with giving young ideas PBS grants? They (PBS) always announce who made possible by grants each artistic and educational show. Do the corporations think we're finger-doodling dummies? That we don't notice who's making this alternative, our pleasure possible'? Festival 77 continues this week. Watch the index in-dex finger network, PBS, on KUED, channel 7. Notice who gives grants.
