Chicago's Organic Theater Company will perform its two-part stage version of Mark Twain's classic tale of Huck's odyssey down the Mississippi River in the early 19th century. Starring in the featured role of Huck Finn will be Keith Sxarabajaka who first appeared as Hud in the national company of "Hair". "The Adventures of Huckleberry Huck-leberry Finn," , directed by Stuart Gordon, . won the Joseph Jefferson Awards for Best New Play and Best Director. It headlined the 1975 Chicago theater season and went on to a triumphant six-week tour of Europe. Its reputation is firmly established in New York and Europe. Although the show is ideal family entertainment, it is not a children's version, by any means. The production is the first completely faithful stage version of Mark Twain's novel and uses only Twain's words for dialog. The production is highly visual with complex lighting and special effects. The game was closely contested con-tested throughout, with the Miners showing well, but Intermountain pulled it out with a 13-8 win. It was an overcast and windy day but the rain didn't dampen the Miner spirit at all. The whole team was up and electrified for their first home game. In the first quarter Park City recovered a fumble, and a Henrion-to-Toly completion comple-tion sparked a 55 yard drive which found the Miners on the Intermountain 6. From there Billy Henrion ran a sweep around the right end for an apparent touchdown. The touchdown was called i back, however, because of a penalty. On fourth down the Miners set up in field goal formation. Instead of the expected field goal they tried a razzle-dazzle play; faking : the field goal and trying a,, pass. Intermountain respon-' ded quickly and the pass was 1 not completed. I' In the second quarter'; Intermountain intercepted at "1 Park City pass and ran it 'back 70 yards for their first? Park City got revenge later in the second quarter when Cliff Martinez picked off an Intermountain pass and ran it back 40 yards for the Miner's first touchdown of the year. Wanting to lead, Park City decided to run the extra point, instead of kick. Tom Martinez got the ball and plowed it across for two. points, putting the Miners ahead, 8 -7. y Intermountain, however, was not shaken up. They held together and scored again in the second quarter. The Miners came close when they picked off another pass from Intermountain Inter-mountain and got to their IT yard line but all attempts to score failed and time ran out. Park City starts its regular season play Friday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m., when they travel to Coalville to face the North Summit Braves. As a result of the weefcsd's wuve of upsets, Nebraska surrendered its xmmm one preseason ranking and dropped to eigpin pijace while Arizona State skidded from third to 18th. Nebraska was held to a 6-6 tie by Louisana State and Arizona State lost to UCLA 28-10. The biggest gain was made by the Missouri Tigers, unranked in the preseason, the Tigers walloped Southern California 46-25 and zoomed to sixth while ihe Trojans went from eighth to an also ran. Michigan's Wolverines trimmed Wisconsin 40-27 and received 28 first place votes while Ohio State whipped the Michigan State Spartans 49-21 and received 18 first place votes from a nation wide poll of sports writers and broadcasters. Rounding out the Top Ten were Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, UCLA, Missouri, Penn State, Nebraska, Georgia, and Maryland. Maryland was most impressive in their opener as they trounced Richmond 31-7. This weekend's biggest game will match the Buckeyes of Ohio State against the Nittajiy Lions of Penn. State. This writer will have to favor the Buckeyes, but only by a slight margin. , Tennis Jimmy Connors and Bjorn Borg played superb tennis in the US Open finals Sunday at Forest Hills, but Connors' strength proved superior as he defeated the Swede 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 to capture his second US Open Tennis Championship. The exciting and dramatic match of tennis' superstars lasted a grueling 3 hours and 10 minutes and thrilled a record crowd at Forest Hills. The pivotal point in the match occurred in the third set; with each player having already won a set. After being tied 6-6, Connors, four times within one solid blow of losing the tiebreaker, rallied magnificently to eke it out 11 points to 9. The tiebreaker is a best of 12 playoff, the first player to win seven points takes it but must have a wo point margin. Winning the set seemed to give a tremendous boost to Connors and obviously discouraged Borg, as Jimmy went on to win the fourth set 6-4. Simpson was the most talked about feature concerning the first week of action in the National Football League. The Juice came to terms with owner Ralph Wilson on the eve of the season opener and played father well despite the Bills loss to the. Miami Dolphins, 30-21 on Monday night The Oakland Raiders stunned the world champion Pittsburgh Steelers by scoring 24 points in the final quarter and winning the contest 31-28. Rookie placekicker Fred Steinfort filled George Blanda's shoes quite well as he booted home a 21 yard field goal with 18 seconds left to complete a dramatic come-from-behind rally. Bill Kilmer hit Mike Thomas on a five yard touchdown pass with 45 seconds remaining to give the Washington Redskins a 19-17 victory over the New York Giants. In other games, the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Atlanta Falcons 30-14 while the surprisingly tough Seattle Seahawks staged a late rally before losing to the St. Louis Cardinals 30-24. The Dallas Cowboys easily defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 27-7 while the Houston Oilers blanked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-0. |
