Recent experiments have raised "the intriguing possibility" of using nutrition as a direct form of cancer therapy, Dr. Gio B. Gori of the National : Cancer Institute said. "It appears that it may be possible to adjust available nutrients in the host so that the host may be fed and the tumor may be starved," Gori told the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs. . Washington Lower speed limits on the nation's highways played an important role in the 17 percent reduction in highway traffic deaths in 1974 and 1975,' figures from the Department of Transportation showed Thursday. The unmanned Viking spacecraft's discovery of an unexpected abundance of ; oxygen produced from Martian soil could indicate processes that may mean life exists on Mars, scientists scien-tists at Viking control headquarters said Saturday. Chairman Arthur F. Burns said the underlying inflation rate has been stuck at about 6 or 7 percent for the past year and poses a "serious threat" to the nation's economy. Speaking to the House Banking Committee, Burns said the immediate outlook for the economy is good. The recovery from the recession is well balanced and all sectors of the economy seem "poised for further . advances", he added. However, Burns warned the legislators,"I don'l think this country is going to have much of an economic future unless we unwind the inflation rate that is now underway." ' Loveland, Colo. A flash flood ripped through Big Thompson Canyon, over the weekend, killing 52 persons and stranding hundreds of survivors in the popular summer recreation area. On Sunday, National Guardsmen flew by helicopter into the canyon to help the survivors until they could be rescued from the flood waters that started pouring through the canyon Saturday night. Larimer County Sheriff Robert Watson, who is in charge of the rescue operation, said, "We're talking about a 30 mile stretch of land that zigzags between Loveland and Estes Park.
