Although the hijackers were rported to members of a radical Palestinian guerrilla group, Air France sources said they spoke in Spanish and broken English during negotiations. Beirut, Lebanon Lebanon's civil-war raged unchecked un-checked Friday as the conflict's bloodiest single battle saw Palestinian guerrillas and right-wing Christians battling over two hoUside refugee camps in-southeastern in-southeastern Beirut. On Sunday a Boeing 707 passenger jet was blasted by artillery and burned to a black skeleton during bombardment of Beirut airport. The airport has been closed indefinitely. An airline spokesman reported the first officer and flight engineer of the four-engine Middle East Airliner were seriously injured and the pilot was missing and believed dead. ' Brussels, Belgium Six cars of a special express train carrying holiday makers from Amsterdam to Paris derailed Sunday, killing as least 11 passengers and injuring 29, railway officials reported. There was no immediate explanation for the cause of the derailment. Rome Italy's Communist party made it clear last week they are claiming the presidency of one of parliment's two houses following their major gains in the general elections held June 20 and 21. The Communists gained 70 seats in the Senate and Chamber oft Deputies in the election. , NATIONAL Washington - Claiming that "our domestic tranquility and the future of American education" are at stake, President Ford proposed legislation Thursday Thur-sday to restrict the power of the courts to order busing as a remedy for segregated schools. In his message transmitting the proposal to Congress Ford said, -"The purpose of submitting this legislatib ''rtoW ' ia to 'place 'the 'debate on 'this- con-troversial con-troversial issue' IriW halls of Congress and in' the democratic process not in the streets of our cities." Philadelphia An Allegheny Airlines DC9 twin jet attempting to land during a heavy thunderstorm cracked in half and skidded off a runway at Philadelphia International Airport on Wednesday. Officials said 44 persons were taken to Methodist Hospital with neck and back injuries while ten others were taken to St. Agnes Hospital. No fatalities were reported. Philadelphia Fire Capt. Frank Schipione, 29, a passenger on the plane, said two engines and the tail section fell off when the plane landed. "It seemed to me that about five persons were seriously hurt, but I'm not a doctor and can't be sure...most people were able to get off on their own power," he said. Thousand Islands Park, N. Y. - A major oil spill that interrupted boat traffic on the busy St. Lawrence Seaway and threatened this scenic wildlife area had U.S. and Canadian emergency teams working frantically fran-tically on Wednesday. About 250,000 gallons of the 6 million gallons of oil aboard a New England Petroleum Co. barge spilled when it ran into a fog-shrouded shoal, Coast Guard officials reported. Officials from both countries are hoping to prevent the oil from reaching a wildlife refuge several miles down river. Aspen - District Attorney Frank Tucker said last Wednesday he does not believe French-born singer Claudine Conget's shooting of her lover pro skier Vladimir "Spider" Sabich, was accidental. "There's no way in the world the prosecution thinks this was an accident," Tucker said. "This was not an accident. It was unfortunate the press was not allowed to be present during the preliminary hearing." Officials of the U.S. Viking unmanned un-manned spacecraft announced on Monday they have begun to search for another landing site on Mars. Officials, after examining recent photographs of the planet, have disclosed the preselected landing site called Chryse might be too hazardous. The Viking touchdown on Mars has been planned to coincide with the U.S. bicentennial celebrations on July 4th. Commenting on the landing complications Viking project manager James Martin said, "I am not pessimistic. I still think we will have a successful landing." She and Sam Coleman, the Assistant Director, have put together an exciting and varied recreation program for the summer, but the would-be rockclimbers, kayakers, Yellowstone trippers and ballerinas are hiding out and laying low. . Classes in rockclimbing, mountain survival, and ballet, (as taught by Sherri Holmes who has performed with the San Francisco Ballet Company) are but a few of those offered by the Recreation Department this summer for adventurers and latent swan lakers. All of these classes have places open and the need for greater participation. The Park program, which aims at those in teen years, offers, among other things, swimming, (daily mornings at the Chateau Apres pool) tennis, which is progressing well with favorable participation, par-ticipation, fishing, boating, horsebackriding, and the use of the Memorial Building's bowling lanes and game room, which facilities are open now Monday through Friday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. Little League games, which got off to something of a slow start received a boost from the efforts loaned by three volunteer coaches, William Reid, his son Michael, and Randy Ririe. The Day Camp program, which is the best attended segement of the Recreation Department's activities,"-is comprised of ages 3 through 12 with those of preschool years making up about one third -of Ihe participants;' A lively, rich,; day-care-pas facility,- which meets at ! the City Grove Park in Thaynes Canyon, features nature games, hikes, arts and crafts and campcraft skills, and bimonthly bi-monthly overnight campouts. The projected plans for Day Camp outings . include a rodeo, a cookout at Shadow Lake, and a ride in the Mine Train. For these and other outings, a vehicle making possible group transportation -would be a boon to the Recreation staff. Cyclist Bob Kassow of Heber covered 49.6 miles in one hour, 40 minutes and 14 seconds to take top honors in the senior race of the Stan-sbury Stan-sbury Park-De Kampion Criterium last Saturday. Kassow, pedaling for Pedali, and Rick Montgomery, Mon-tgomery, riding for De Kampion, sprinted ahead of the pack early in the race and after two laps over the.8-mile course the duo established a lead that would hold up for the duration. - Kassow and Montgomery alternated at the tiring lead position with the other close behind and pushed to a 25 second lead over the rest of the cyclists. At one stage of the competition the two were clocked at laps of 30 miles per hour. . With the pack sporadically narrowing the gap only to fall back again, Kassow took the lead for good as he approached ap-proached the last lap. His finishing kick left Montgomery Mon-tgomery almost five seconds behind and in second place.
