Bowling Alley . The construction of the four buildings, which are to be built adjacent to Highway 248, is expected to get under way as soon as the weather permits. The plans presented to the commission Wednesday Wed-nesday night included two mini-malls, a 16-Iane bowling alley and an . 11,000-sq. ft. general stored , Plans Rejected . ' When Sloan presented the plans for the bowling alley, he described them "as your typical bowling alley with the plans drawn up by Brunswick.", Brun-swick.", Planning Commission member Bill Bertagnole told Sloan he . felt the square structure was too typical and added that he could not vote for its approval. Sloan admitted that he was also disappointed with the design for the bowling alley and assured the commission he would make some changes and submit the plans. "Yeslcan" Sloan's building plans for the two "mini-malls," which were described as being similar to Trolly Square, also received a less than enthusiastic en-thusiastic response from the planning commission. When the developer asked what the commission did not like about the design, Bertagnole Ber-tagnole offered, "I just don't like the looks of it." With a tinge of indignation in his voice Sloan argued, "You can't disapprove a building because you don't like its looks." Bertagnole's rebuttal was simple and to the point, "Yes lean." Company Store Having gone 0 for 3 with his proposed plans, the Prospector Square representative introduced the design for the general store by telling the commission, "I have one here you're really going to like." After examining the plans for the Victorian looking 1 building, which will be called the "Company Store," the commission agreed it was an attractive design. Sloan explained the "Company Store" will be a general type store selling clothes, appliances, sporting goods and maybe even some non prescription drugs. Wilking Questions When City Councilman Jan Continued on Page 4' Thayle Eugene Lund, a 34-year-old Salt Lake City native, was appointed Park City Police Chief Thursday night by the city council. Lund had previously served as deputy sheriff for Santa Clara County in California. The Olympus High graduate who attended the University of Utah for three years, performed field work for three years, acted as detention officer in charge of Santa Clara County's main detention facility for two and a half years, and was a warrant officer with duties requiring the apprehension and transportation of criminals at large for six months. .Lund completed numerous courses in police . sciences while in California, received eight letters of commendation com-mendation for outstanding achievement in the line of duty, was often honored for his marksmanship in law . enforcement competition, and was commented for heroic action in the field of police work.
