An outline describing what would be involved in building tho lift as wall . as an av. . MW, planation of the advantages it would create for the Main Street area, was presented to ' the council by two local real estate brokers, Harry Reed of Skyline Realty and Bill Coleman of Hal Taylor and Associates. 1 Ideal Project The two real estate men, who said they were simply civic minded citizens who were concerned about the future of Park City and had no vested interest in the chair lift, pointed out to the council that the idea for the chairlift was an ideal project since it would benefit both the resort and the town. The tentative plan for the lift includes two connecting chairs. One would go from the bottom of the Quittin' Time run down Fourth Street, letting riders off in Swede Alley. The other chair would start at the bottom of Quittin' Time and would connect with the Crescent lift, thus avoiding the gondola line. The alleviation of lift lines along with the diminishing of traffic and parking problem is seen by Reed and Coleman as one of the major assets of the new chair. The chair could also be used during the summer season to stimulate , business, they added. . " . The present ' problems facing the chair, lift include financing and land right of ways for the area traversed by the lift. . Cost : The projected cost for building the chair range from $350,000 to $550,000. Although no firm commitments com-mitments have been made for financing, the resort officials, when approached, were "warm and receptive to the proposal," Reed disclosed. In a meeting with Nick Badami, president of Alpine Meadows, Ray Johnson, president of the Park City Ski Corp. and Phil Jones, Park City's mountain manager, Reed said all voiced a sincere interest in working out the financial problems involved in building the chair lift. Commenting on the Resort's .. willingness to cooperate in a project geared toward the traditional part of town, Reed said, "I think the resort, under the new management of Alpine Meadows, is less confined by a conflict of developing interest in-terest than it was in the past." V:'-, ' After hearing the basic outline for the proposed chair lift, the council unanimously expressed their interest and support. ' v ' ' ' ' Mayor Leon Uriarte said, "If inconveniences involving the local residents could be worked out I would be all for It." ' Councilman Jack Green commented, "it would cer tainly increase property values in the area." Councilman Rich Martinez added, "We sure need something like this up at this end of town. Offering a more dramatic opinion, Councilman Jan Wilking said, "It's needed to save the town." .
