And believe me, this was a very spooky selection. "The Book of the Dead" by Douglas Preston Pres-ton and Lincoln Child was published last' year following follow-ing their successful series which included "Relic" (I reviewed it last week). You may want to read the first books to get background back-ground on the main characters charac-ters and meet some great monsters, but you can start with this newest one and go back to the series later. Keep the lights on while reading and rethink booking that trans-Atlantic cruise! "Wheel of Darkness" begins be-gins in a Tibetan monastery' where FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast (I do so love the name of this character!) and his ward (do people really call themselves this anymore?) the brilliant, beautiful, slightly damaged Constance Greene are recovering re-covering after their last traumatic adventure. The duo is asked by the monks to bring back a stolen relic with dangerous mystical mysti-cal powers. These powers could destroy the world! The quest sends them on the maiden voyage of the ship Britannia where the murderer is a passenger. passen-ger. But which passenger is the culprit, or could it be a crew member? The Britannia is no Love Boat. In the middle of the trans-Atlantic trans-Atlantic crossing crew and passengers begin dying at an alarming daily rate. This is a modern tale, in living color, of terror and thus includes a lot of blood and gore.
