Show Thursday, September 25, 2008 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Senator Hatch lauds passage of adoption bill Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today lauded the Senate's passage of a bill that creates incentives to move more children from foster care into adoptive homes and helps relatives of the children to care for them in their own communities. commu-nities. The Fostering Connections Connec-tions to Success and Increasing In-creasing Adoptions Act of 2008 (H.R.6893), which combines Senate and House adoption packages, aims to transition more children from foster care situations into permanent homes. "Children should have the right and the expectation expec-tation of being in loving lov-ing homes in their own communities - under the watchful eye of loving grandparents and other relatives who have cared for them as foster parents," par-ents," said Hatch, co-sponsor of a companion bill (S. 3038) in the Senate. "This bill will provide stability to these children and help them successfully transition tran-sition to adults who are ready to take their place in society and build a better bet-ter America." Karen Crompton, executive ex-ecutive director of Voices for Utah Children, lauded Hatch for his work on and support of the legislation, which the Senate passed late Monday. "I applaud the support of Senator Hatch to advance this vital legislation that represents the most significant signif-icant improvement in services ser-vices to help our nation's most-vulnerable children," Crompton said. "Through this effort, Congress has shown the ability to cross party lines to improve the lives of foster children who are currently awaiting await-ing a permanent home." The bill will provide: Financial assistance to relatives of children for whom they have cared for as adoptive parents and legal le-gal guardians. Bonuses to states that increase the number of children adopted out of foster care. Better oversight within the foster care system. Support for children in foster care pursuing an education, job training or work up to age 21. American Indian children chil-dren are overrepresented in the U.S. child welfare system. The bill would provide pro-vide resources to tribes to enable them to better care for their own in the communities com-munities where the children chil-dren live. The legislation also would build on the current Adoption Incentives Program, Pro-gram, increasing incentives incen-tives for the adoption of children out of foster care, especially older children. mum IT HOE RIOTTDEE PUBLIC NOTICE .
