SHS Book Club kick's off the newyear Mikelynn Helmer ; SHS STAFF WRITER Although more than half of first term has run its course, the SHS Book Club is just getting started for an amazing year. Their club presidency, headed by senior Whitney Winegar, has yet to settle on the book list the club members will be reading this year. They plan on starting with books from the historical histor-ical fiction genre and move on to other genres such as fantasy and suspense. The club advisor, Mr. Macdonald, a Spanish teacher at SHS, said, "It's a student-initiated club where the students are the ones who run and decide everything." . While Mr. Macdonald lets the students do their thing, he's still excited to see what they can do this year. The book club's first ever meeting this year was on Tuesday, Oct. 10. They also plan on having their first ever activity this year; the activity will take place after UEA break on Tuesday, Oct. 17. They will hold a read-a-thon. If you're interested in joining the all-student Book Club, then pay your dues at the finance office at SHS, and sign up with Mr. Macdonald Mac-donald in room Ml. 'AH you book worms out there need to get ready for the upcoming read-a-thon and enjoy a great year participating partici-pating in the student-lead Book Club. Cross Country region meet Chelcie Richins SHS STAFF WRITER On Saturday, Oct. 9, the SHS Cross Country Team competed in a region meet. They took 4th place, qualifying quali-fying for the state meet which will be held October 18. Spencer Gardner, a junior ju-nior at SHS, took first place in his division. Go Spencer! Spen-cer!
