Against leading performances per-formances by such stars as Edward Hermann, Kathleen Loyd, Lorenzo Lamas, and Maureen McCormick, Baird plays the role of "Doc" Talada in the Keith Merrill-directed Merrill-directed motion picture. "Take Down" was filmed in American Fork, Orem, and Salt Lake City last winter under the title, "Wedge". "Doc" Talada is a student at Mingo Junction High School, a school whose teams have been defeated so many times they feel at home at the bottom. When the Mingo Junction Bulldogs decide wrestling is the wedge they will use to break through the barrier of constant disappointment, they have no experience, no equipment, and no coach. Nevertheless, "Doc" becomes a member of a team of misfits determined to scrap their way to the final take down. It was Lynn's experience ex-perience as a wrestler at Springville High School that pegged him for the movie role. In addition to his wrestling credits, Mark Carpenter, left, and Melia Woodfield in a scene from the Springville High School production of "Catch Me If You Can" opening tonight at 7:30 in the Little Theater at the school. The play is 'Catch Me if You Can' opens "Catch Me If You Can" described by the N. Y. 'Star Spangled Girl' earns rave reviews By OneitaSumsion If you'd like to spend two hours of 'pun-filled fun,' then go see "Star Spangled Girl" playing at the Villa Playhouse here. Every seat should have been filled for the premiere performance last Thursday night. They weren't. But when the word gets out, ticket sales are bound to skyrocket. That performance is worth the price of three movie tickets and I could fill an entire page with adjectives describing it. But I think I will settle for just plain. "It was good. "I'd be hard pressed to think of another play I enjoyed any more. This time Neil Simon outdid himself with humor. No way could a fair critic find the slightest fault with the production. It was professional all the way. Bruce Newbold, Johnny Whitaker and Jayne Luke were so well-prepared that the words fairly rolled off their tongues. You'd think it was totally ad-libbed if you didn't know better. The laughs came so thick and fast that you couldn't quit laughing before you started to laugh again. And though first acts generally drag, this production had one of the fastest moving first acts I've ever sat through. The actors literally jumped into their performance, and pulled the audience right in after them. There never was any lag whatsoever. A good play doesn't just happen. It was clearly evident that the entire Castle Production Staff poured their hearts and souls into making "Star Spangled Girl" a truly professional production. The set design and props were exceptional. Every sound was audible. And that says a lot, since nearly every play has some parts which can't be heard. In short, all the bugs were out before opening night. Congratulations to Castle Productions and Liberty West Productions who joined forces to bring another professional production to our area. And when you think of all that's involved in bringing this professional production to a one-horse place like Springville, those who brought it have got to have lots of confidence in themselves, or lots of confidence in the people of the area, or both, to make it go. Let's show them that we want them here. That we can and will make it go. Let's make it a profitable season for the producers and fill every seat, every night, so they will keep bringing outstanding entertainment en-tertainment to our area. Only one annoying thing happened to spoil the evening. The woman seated next to me got her teeth into a boxing match with her chewing gum..and sometimes the popping was louder than the laughter all around us. Support the play, but please, leave your gum at home. Lynn is one of Springville's top scholars carrying a 3.9 grade point average. One of his most colorful teammates in the film , is Stephen Furst, who played Flounder in "Animal House". Other top professionals in "Take Down" include Emmy award-winner Edward Herrmann, who plays the self-effacing, non-athletic English teacher who is drafted to be the school's new wrestling coach. Herrmann Herr-mann is remembered by television veiwers for his portrayals of Franklin D. Roosevelt on NBC-TV's "Eleanor and Franklin" series and Lou Gehrig in "The Lou Gehrig Story." He has worked with Robert Redford in both "The Great Waldo Pepper'' and "The Great Gatsby," and played opposite George C. Scott in "Day of the Dolphin." Hot stuff 1. Maureen McCormick, Lamas' romantic interest in the film, was Marsha in "The Brady Bunch" and "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour."
