Show Page Four Thf Springville Herald January 7, 1971 Senior 'Student if ) -Ts ' ( J-if Kathy Thomas Division head speaks at WLC January 14 C. LaVar Rockwood, director of the Division of Drugs for the State of Utah, will be the featured speaker at the Jan. 14 meeting of the Women's Legislative Council at 9:30 a.m. in the Women's Cultural Hall, 310 W. 500 N., Provo. He will be accompanied by Keith Miner of the Provo Police Department. The pair will continue a discussion of drug abuse and related problems which were introduced at the last Legislative Council meeting held in November. In addition the frustrations and problems of law enforcement as seen through the eyes of the police will be outlined. Prior to his recent appointment ap-pointment Mr. Rockwood was Assistant Dean of Students at BYU. He also has served as director of Student Special Services and coordinator of Student Activities at BYU. He has been a private consultant for Counseling Programs in public schools and lecturer and consultant con-sultant on problems of youth and private consultant for business management. He is a 1945 graduate of South High School and graduated from University of Utah in 1953. He also has completed grauate work at BYU, University of Utah and Washington State University. Univer-sity. He is married to the former Shirley Williams and they are the parents of four teen-age children. Mr. Miner has been with the Provo Police Department for 14 years. At present he is head of the Drug and Narcotics Division, a post he has held for three years. He is a resident of Provo and is the father of three daughters. The program was arranged by the Judiciary Committee of the Women's Legislative Council consisting of Mrs. Talmage (Phillis) Thomas, Mrs. Boyd (Pauline) Smuin and Mrs. (Margaret) Blackett. .omin 9 Federated Music Club Springville Federated Music Club will meet at the home of Mrs. James Felix Friday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Howard Maycock will present a program on the lite and music of Joseph Haydn. The I a .Seiche pu-- jf of the Week' Kathy Thomas has been chosen as the Senior student of the week at S.H.S. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan M. Thomas. Kathy has been very active at the high school. As a Sophomore she was elected head J.V. Cheerleader and Sophomore Art Queen. In Kathy's Junior year she was a member of the Pep Club and A Cappella choir. This year she is a Varsity Cheerleader. Her squad was rated superior at the National Cheerleaders summer camp and placed in the top 3 over 100 other squads. She is also vice-president vice-president of the A Cappella choir, and a member of the singing group, the Springville Hi's. She was recently chosen Duchess of the Senior Prom. Kathy has always shared her various talents. She helped with the choreography of SHS's production of "Camelot" and also the Springville Hi's. She has studied dancing for 12 years. Her talent of perfect pitch has been used for the past two years to pitch the A Cappella. Active in her church, Kathy has served as a Primary teacher, MIA organist and Primary organist. She is a Seminary graduate and is enrolled in her fourth year. She is vice-president of her class. Kathy maintains a grade point average of 3.8 and along with her other activities enjoys creative writing, poetry, dancing and music. She plans to attend the BYU, majoring . in English and literature and minoring in music. Modern Mothers hold party Modern Mothers Club held their Christmas party at Barts a week ago Tuesday with a sumptuous dinner served at the beginning of the evening. Following this games were enjoyed. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Alma Garrett, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Greenhalgh, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barlett, Dr. and Mrs. Reed Holdaway, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Patten, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Payne, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Pyper, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schreiver, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Sheffield, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Strong, Mr. and Mrs.. Don Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Houser and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Huntington. . .. ' Judd family holds Christmas party Family members of Camilla and the late John A. Judd were together for the annual Christmas Eve party at the Judd home. A lovely buffet dinner was served to 19 guests: Dr. and Mrs. Clair W. Judd, Mr. and Mrs. John Judd and children, Lorraine Judd, Salt Lake City; Susan Judd,. Riverside, Calif.; Roger and Brenda Judd of this city; Dr. and Mrs. T. R. Judd, Paul and Douglas of Spanish Fork; Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Marcia) Mills of Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Grant (Ruth) Excell of Ogden and Mary Weaver, Spanish Fork. A delightful evening was spent visiting and exchanging gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Holmes and baby Phillip and Mrs. Frank Holmes spent the holiday week in California. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes were the guests of Mrs. Holmes' parents in Sacramento while Mrs. Frank Holmes spent the time with a daughter Bertie and family. They also visited Mrs. Holmes' brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Phillips from Richland, Washington who were visting their two daughters in San Jose, Calif. I !
