(American Wire) John Hoar and Mark Lyman, two old-time gold prospectors, have turned .the table - oa nature. After years of diggin' they've finally made a "strike," but it isn t gold it's peat moss. Every year the prospectors used to outfit and head north to work six months at diggin's. But their new strike, located 15 miles from Bremerton, will likely bring them more yield than all their Alaskan diggin's put together. A Rich Industry Approximately $75,000 worth of peat moss is sold each year within the state of Washington by one firm alone, they report. Virtually all of this amount is imported from Canada. The moss is also imported to the United States from Sweden and Germany. The prospectors recent strike is a peat moss bog in Kitsap county. It may soon develop a new industry indus-try for the Pacific northwest. A large acreage of gravel land is rehabilitated by use of the moss. It gives new life to garden soil. Poultry farmers use it on the floors of their chicken houses, re The traffic death rate for children chil-dren ranging from 5 to 14 years old has decreased 13 per cent since 1922, while the rate for all other age groups has climbed steadily. $ : .
