U. S. ATHLETES BEAT BRITISH SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 16 UJ!) American Olympic track stars packed away their spiked shoes today to-day and looked forward to a few months of rest. Having scored a decisive triumph tri-umph in the 10th Olympic games, several of the stars came here and vanquished the British empire in the fifth renewal of the post-olym-pic contests of the two nations. Although handicapped by the absence of some of their most outstanding out-standing runners, such as Eddie Tolan, Willie Carr and Ben Eastman, East-man, the Americans, through the individual stamina and speed of a comparative handful of contestants, contest-ants, added more glory ;to their year's performance by winning six of the ten competitive events at Kezar stadium yesterday. Three world records went by the boards while a crowd of 25,000 sat alternately cheering and shiv enng under gray, fog-laden skies Percey Beard skimmed over the 120-yard high hurdles to tie his own world record. The British half-milers ran the two-mile relay in 7:40.2, clipping a second off the world's mark. The other world mark to fall was the 80-meter women's hurdles rec ord. Simone Schaller of the United States, who could place only fourth in the Olympics, ran that event in 11.6, one-tenth of a second faster than the world mark established in the Olympiad. Americans who carried the Drunt of the attack were Ralph Metcalfe, giant negro speeder from Marquette; Emmett Toppino of Loyola. Hec Dyer of California, ana Kalph Montague of San Fran uiacu. A-ney won the 400 meter Girl Ball Teams Now In Finals Pioneer ward will oppose the Fifth ward in the girls' mush ball championship of the Utah stake at 4:15 p. m. at Geneva, Wednesday, Wednes-day, as part of the sports program of the Utah stake outing. Pioneer won from the Third, 8-6, Monday, and the Fifth won from Bonneville 29-5. In the kickball contest the Sixth ward will play the winner of the Second and Manavu wards in their game Tuesday night in the girls' loop. Sixth won their way to the final in a freak game with the Third. 21-20, in which the Third was ahead 20-4 until the last inning. Birds commonly eat as many 100 insects at a single meal as SUMMER DRINK relay, running it in 37.5 to break the meet record of 37.8. Then they ran the half mile relay, losing to the British team of Pearson, . Elliott, El-liott, Wright and Joubert by half a yard. Metcalfe and Dyer fin ished their day's performance by; striving mightily in the mile medley med-ley relay, last event on the program, pro-gram, won by the British team of Rampling, Wright, Joubert ana Edwards.
