Geimany's desperate plight in the World War, growing out of her failure to lay in a sufficient supply of rubber, "being described at present by Harvey S. Firestone, Jr, vice president of The Firestone , Tire and. Rubber Company , in a series of radio talks on the romance ro-mance and drama of the rubber in- ,, dustry. Each talk is in the nature -f a heretofore untold episode of the war and furnishes a vivid side-lijrhton side-lijrhton the costliness to Germany of her serious mistake with regard to rjibber. The series has attracted tremeridous attention., In recent. weeks, Mr. Firestone has been deluged -with fan mail telling of .' the interest listeners everywhere are taking in these anecdotes of the war. . Mr. Firestone's talk is delivered at the half-way mark of each Monday Mon-day night's broadcast over the Red Network and affiliated stations of N. B. C. The first broadcast, covering cover-ing the Eastern, Southern and Middle Mid-dle Western states, takes place at half past eight, E. S.T., and the second, for the Coast and Mountain states, at half past eight, Pacific time. Appearing with him on the "Voice of Firestone' is Lawrence Tibbett, Metropolitan opera, talking picture and concert star, and it is estimated that an audience running high into the millions tune$ in each week to hear the program, r The stories of the war describe the extremes to which Germany went in her quest for rubber. Close ' surveillance was maintained by the 1 rubber control committee, which had charge of war-time supervision of the rubber that England allowed us to import on condition it would not be resold to Gf-nnany. A quilt for each of the honor guests was completed. June Hayes, Eleanor Moore and' Ann Skinner; closing song, "America"; benediction, benedic-tion, Mrs. Elizabeth Hales. FIRESTONE, Jr. Germany's representatives to obtain any, rubber at all. On one occasion, however, they managed to get four hundred .tons of it and stored this supply in a Brooklyn warehouse. There it was placed in large barrels bar-rels in such a way that there re-, re-, mained a margin of several inches between it and the sides of the containers. Then molten resin was poured into the barrels to encase the rubber completely and hide it from view. In that guise, the rubber whichGermany needed " so badly was carried by motor trucks at night to a waiting steamship and eventually reached the German Empire. All the near relatives of the couple invaded - their home laden with good things to eat.
