Cougars Win f Li From Aggies R. M. C. Champions Play Flawless Ball To Blast Hopes of Favored Aggies; Millet, Whitman Shine By J. It. PAULSON Bvery inch champions, the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university basketball five put pn a dazzling exhibition of hoop play to overwhelm a high ly- touted Utah Aggie team 57-31 in the first game of the western division series at the "Y" Ladies' gym Friday night. After a nervous start for both teams the Cougars of Coach Ott Romney started a hard-rustling clever-.Tssing offensive that swept the favorite Aggie9 off their feet and rolled in scores with monotonous monoton-ous precision, every man fitting into his place perfectly. After boosting the score to 37-11 at the half, the Cougars eased up a bit while the Aggies took the aggressive aggres-sive with a short rally. Thereafter the teams played nip and tuck until, with the floor full of reserves the Aggies were slightly gaining at gun-time. Fight Hard Seldom has such an inspired fight as the Cougars put on been seen in the local gym. From the first whistle they went at it hammer ham-mer and tongs, with recently-ill Floyd Millett, forward, playing remarkable ball, rustling hard and shooting accurately. His dogged determination offset effects of the "flu." For the Aggies it must be said that Dick Romney's crew was not playing on par in the first half. Probably they couldn't, not having the ball to play with. With the Cougars controlling the ball the Aggies blew somewhat and did not fully recover themselves until after the half. Jay Whitman started the scoring scor-ing with a foul pitch which Adams equalled a moment later and then the parade started. Millet intercepted inter-cepted a pass to dribble in for a setup for the first field goal. After McNeill scared a close-in basket Whitman. Petty and Mc Neill managed to cage a pair jot gcals then before Jim Hutiternd Whitman scored once more and Millet and Nelson dropped in two each as the half ended. Watts regained some of his confidence con-fidence after the rest period and scored and with Ryan pouring a couple in the Aggies ran their score to 22, after which the Cougars Cou-gars went on another rampage with Dick Grimmett, Nelson, Cannon Can-non and Whitman figuring largely, boosting it to 52. At this point Turpin and Joe Johnson went in for the "Y" and i Hansen took Petty's place in the Aggie lineup and with other substitutions sub-stitutions a moment later the scoring scor-ing was more evenly distributed the remainder of the game. Conly Watts played a heads-up floor game for the Aggies although al-though held to an unusually low score Kent Ryan at center appeared ap-peared to especial advantage through part of the game. Reynolds wa impressive in his victory, over Jones last week and the fans immediately immediate-ly liked him. His application of the Jack Reynolds leg split, with which he rolled Jones all over the mat, was one of the features of the local mat season. The fact that Reynolds is willing to risk the belt so soon after winning it, establishes the point that he is no "cheese champion" esjecially inasmuch inas-much as he is going on a tour of the east after the bout.
